its an illusion or not?

i want my backhoe bucket to open farther, it doesnt really open far enough to get a good bite when the hole gets more then a few feet deep, now it has a pin hole on the bucket which is closer to the bucket, the cylinder retracts when the bucket opens so would this make it open wider or not as wide? looking at it is a math and mechanical question

When the two pivot points on the bucket are closest together (cylinder rod and bucket hinge) the bucket should experience more travel and travel faster.

My understanding is there are 2 settings. One opens wider for digging and the other curls tighter for loading, up high, like onto a dump truck.

We always called it grave digger and truck loading position, in one pin it opens further to dig a square back hole like a grave, the other it closes further to pick up high and load into a dump truck

Don't sit as close to the hole if you want a straight back wall. If you have extendahoe this is really easy to do. If not just play with it and you'll find a happy medium
