I'm currently helping a family clean out an estate of a 95 year old farmer and we uncovered this piece today. It's an early and very nice example of a Springfield Seeding Machine from Springfield Ohio. I'm not sure of the age, but I would guess this thing to be about 100 years old. I think Springfield Seeding eventually got bought out by Oliver.
The piece has a great stencil of the company name on the box on top, both wooden spoke wheels are in great shape and it appears all the discs and other parts are there. This thing has probably been sitting in the barn for 50 years or more. The family realizes this piece has some value, but does not need full retail for it. The piece is located in southern Michigan and would need to be picked up within a month as the house and farm are for sale. If there is no interest in this forum it will be placed out for sale with the other items at next weekends estate sale. We are just trying to get it to someone who could/would restore and enjoy it. If you have an interest in it please give me a shout back. Thanks, Greg
