John Deere A

I have a John Deere A, and I would like to purchase a PTO driven finish mower that I can just pull off the draw bar. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Thanks.

You might <a href="http://www.manualslib.com/manual/23247/Bush-Hog-Tough-Fth-600.html">also consider Bush Hog</a>.

First you need to determine what model John Deere A you have as for from the first to last there is a horsepower range of from about 27 on the unstyled tractors to 29 on the all fuel tractors from 41 to end of production in 52 and then the gas tractor from 47 to 52 at 38 horsepower and that big power range can determine size. Then does it have a power lift that you could put a 3 point conversion on and would only be full up or down or a power troll that with a 3 point conversion you could set it at any height you want. Then and I do not know if any companys make a actuall pull type finnish mower or not or for that you would have to go with a bush hog type of mower. And width might have to be as small as 5' that would not cover your wheel tracks to an 8' that would cover your wheel tracks but that would have to be in an actuall finnish type of mower as even the latest A on gas would not have the power to run a bush hog type of 8'. And for any of them you need an over run coupler on the pto of the tractor and some of the tractor PTO shafts are 1 1/8" and later ones are 1 3/8". And if you could find an actuall pull type of finnish mower do you have a remote cylinder to do the lifting or would it have to be a mechanical lift? All a lot of questions that need answered before any good information can be given. An option might be a ATV type of mower but I do not know if they are made in over a 4' model. Late A 50 to 52 model with the low speed tranny (single gear shift lever) (others have a 2 shift lever tranny and just might be too fast to handle unless everything is wide open space with nothing to mow around) and power troll would be easy to get a 3 point aftermarket hitch to use a standard finnish mower of 7 or 8' but due to the weight hanging on the back you might have to come up wih a way to add weights on front end to counterballance weight of mower.

ASC has some for around $500....5' would assume for your A. I think they are made in china but I have seen the same thing for sale at other
reputable stores, just different paint, higher priced. The paint sucks, but for $500 one can afford to "suck it up" and live with it or get a couple of
rattle cans of green. Ha.

My "tired 8n" pulls a 6' (2572) Landpride (great) with no problem. I also have a 5' King Kutter (ok) and had a 5' Caroni (good).
Unless your A is dead, it should pull at least a 7' with no problem. My neighbor pulls a 9' (brand?) three blade mower with his
A.

Thanks Leroy. Around here they were/must have been the early ones....27 hp types. 5' was about all they could handle in tall grass and weeds.

Thanks Leroy, allot of good info.
