Yahoo scam?

About every other day I've been getting an email supposedly from Yahoo, saying that an attempt has been made to log in to my email account from places like Brazil,Argentina, etc. There are several links that they want me to click on to change my password,up my security and what not. I haven't fallen for it. I figure my security and password must be OK if they're contacting me to tell me the attempt was thwarted.

Anybody else getting emails like that? It just seems fishy to me.

We had one pop up only last week so you are not alone, as you say something smelt a bit off so I redirected it as a phishing scam and used it as a reminder that it was time to set up some new passwords, certainly not a good idea to click on the links.

Only ever change your password when you type in the URL yourself, to go to Yahoo, Ebay, Gmail, etc.

My boss fell for the pop-up a couple years ago and his email account got hacked.

rrlund: Yahoo HAS been aggressively attempting to get their users to provide them with more personal information lately under the guise of improving their security. However, this has typically came in the form of requesting it at login, not separate e-mails, pop-ups, or other presentations. If you do feel the need to change your password, you can do it from the main site after logging in, rather than following an e-mail link, which is seldom a wise idea, especially if it was not specifically requested by you.

I get the same thing all the time from E bay and Comcast and I never open them just delete them.

Those emails sound like scams, and you should be able to tell because the links won't go to the actual yahoo site but a bogus site that LOOKS like yahoo.

The best way to be sure is to just go to yahoo https://www.yahoo.com/ and log in. If there's a problem with your account you should be notified when you login.

I never click on a link in an email as 99% are fishing emails looking for passwords.

Im like Chuck i never click a link in a email that someone sends and its just a link to something. Someimes they will say hey Mike and look like someone you know sent it but its just a link in a email. never click on that kind for sure.. I been meaning to ask and have looked back to see if you posted anything about your brother in law. is he better??

I would forget the link. Pretty certain within yahoo, after you log-on, you can change your password directly.

Might be a good time to do that.

Good luck,
Bill

Ya,it's from Yahoo-inc.com when I hover the cursor over the reply icon. I don't think they'd have the -inc in their address.

Instead of using yahoo, maybe you should set up your own email server in a bathroom closet. Lock the door to be sure it's secure.

Every now and then I get an e mail that is labeled as being from one of my known contacts. I right click on it, go to properties, details, message source and take a look. If it doesn't look right then I delete it.

Apparently the secure servers are in the basement.

There is also an ad on there about Sally Field's last goodbye to Bert Reynolds. Says it will tear your heart out or something line that. The site has nothing to do with what the prompt says. Selling some kind of cosmetic.....pffffffffffft.

On the subject, the first time i saw "Smoky and the Bandit" I didn't know about Sally and Bert. Then I found out. Then I recently saw it a second time. Body language was apparent. They enjoyed filming that movie. Grin

On Bert, I saw him on tv a few days ago at some musician's funeral. Really looked bad. Guy just had a charisma about himself. I can see why he was a "gal magnet".
