Red Boiling Springs Tennessee

So,Lee Little,jm,anybody else have anything they can tell me about it? We're staying in Byrdstown Tn for the week of the 127 Sale, have Wednesday of that week open for the most part. We've done all the York stuff in Pall Mall, been to Mammoth Cave,Kentucky Down Under,Cordell Hull Museum,Cumberland Falls twice,Big Fork Railroad trip from Stearns to Blue Heron, fish hatchery at Lake Cumberland dam, about everything there is that we know of to do around the Upper Cumberland area.
Been thinking about heading over to Red Boiling Springs for a day trip on that Wednesday in early August that we have free. The wife says she wants to do something different while we're there this year and not just the yard sale.
Or,is there anything we haven't done that would make for a good day trip in that area? She said she wanted to take a winery tour, see some other water falls besides Cumberland, walk some trails, take a different cave tour............ Who knows. She's a woman.

Looks like you have pretty well covered everything within 100 miles of your stay. Best I remember about the RBS area was an old house and some local crafts. Little bit east of my roaming area. You could stay a day in Nashville plenty to see there but a good day would be the tour of the distillery where Jack Daniels is made. Would require a drive down to Winchester Tenn. Would get to see some different area of Tennessee from where you have been. Come on over little farther west to Dover ten and we will show you the civil war battlefield and Fort Donaldson ,

Ya,I'd been to this site too. Tells about some attractions there. I just didn't know how old some of those facts were or what's going on during the week. Wondered if anybody knew for sure. I'm not opposed to driving over there to find out,but I'd rather not listen to "well, that was a bust".
RBS

Not much in RBS. Several antique stores in Lebanon TN, home of cracker barrel. Like jm said Nashville has lots. An opry visit is a must. You missed the Smithville jamboree. It's interesting if you like bluegrass music.

The week of 127 is usually tobacco cutting time. Very hott!!

The buzz in KY now is the ark that opens tomorrow. My son is going with his grand parents tomorrow. It's in the northern part of the state. Nathan

Ya,I just saw a story about the Ark on the news a few minutes ago. I know about the heat, that's for sure. We go every year. That's why I want to stay right at the lake this year for most of it. If we get too hot and tired,we can go back to the lake and go swimming then take a nap in the air conditioned cabin. We'll head up in to Ky on Saturday. We always head over to Lexington on the Parkway Saturday afternoon and spend Saturday night with the wife's sister and brother in law.

We drove down through Nashville two years ago when we started the yard sale in Gadsden Alabama. We didn't stop. I suppose we should one of these years. The traffic on the expressways around there is enough to deter anybody from wanting to go back.
If not for having to go to Lexington on Saturday night to see the inlaws,I'd love to go to Renfro Valley again, but by the time the show's over,it would be 11pm or later before we made it up to Lexington.

We went to Stearn's a few years back in the fall.We stayed at a B&B,and did the train ride, too. But,if I recall correctly, there is a double natural bridge in the area, and a a few trails to hike. There also were some scenic views that we went to,but it was fall, and the colors were great.Very nice, pleasant area, not crowded at all.Mark

you can visit my Case pal Jonathon woodrum in liberty ky , but , he will be in pennfield il , this weekend randy , now this summer ,I want to take my sara to visit Biltmore in Asheville n c ,,. on the way we intend to take in the sites around pall mall, and seargent yorks home

Take 127 down from Albany Ky. That's the most beautiful drive I've ever been on in my life. Be sure to stop in at Possum Trot and the Forbus Store. The dam at the Alvin C York Memorial Grist Mill is so peaceful, you'll want to sit right down and spend the rest of your life right there.

No. That one was an auction house or something wasn't it? I remember watching it when they mentioned Possum Trot thinking it was the same, but it wasn't. It's not a place you'd forget though. Or a place where you'd spend much time for that matter. You just need to stop in to say you were there.

Been down there and love that part of eastern Kentucky and the foot hills of the Smokey Mountains of eastern Tenn..

Hope you take some pics to post.

Your wife and you can join the club...
Daughter and I take many pics of things we love at garage sales, flea markets and auctions...
BUT we also have a photo category for "just too dang ugly to exist". It's fun to be the one to spot the hideously, ridiculously UGLY item. LOL

This wouldn't be a good time to post a picture of me and Lee Little at the flea market in Clark Range Tennessee would it? LOL

There's supposed to be one in Livingston too. That's just a little south of where we're staying.

Not at RBS but Hidden River Cave/museum in Horse Cave Ky is interesting. Just north of there is a family run farm store that we totally enjoy visiting. Hedgepeth Farm Supply near Canmer, KY. The owner is a member to this site and he and his wife do a lot of walking/bike tours in a large area of Ky and Tn.

Randy there are some early 1900 motels from when RBS was a resort area famous for its mineral water. They are sort of interesting but I dont know if you guys would get excited about it. There is also a motorcycle museum there but Ive never been in it so I cant comment. You might go check it out then continue on west on 62 toward Lafayette[sp?] and check out the farming/crops. About 10 miles out of Celina on Proctor Creek road off of 52 is my favorite Amish community. I would reccomend checking them out while in that area. I hope we can get together and eat lunch or supper again. Lee

OH YEAH! I almost forgot if you turn right off of 62 before you get to RBS [cant remember the road name] you can go through Bug Tussle [for real] if you go a little further on that road you will come to Flippin,Ky. Somewhere I have a picture of the Flippin post office. Aint too many people can say they have been to Bug Tussle lol.

Ha-ha... No-no, I mean like this kind of "too ugly to exist":

Kim asked me if I'd heard from you lately. She's looking forward to seeing you guys again. She really feels bad about being so sick last year when we were there and wants to make it up. We're planning to get there on the second and we're not leaving until the morning of the sixth,so I'm sure we can get together somewhere in that time.

As far as not being interested in something, she said that to me yesterday. I told her that when I'm on vacation,I can get interested in most anything. lol

Ya,I was just gonna show you the ugliest thing that Lee ever found at a flea market. lol

We cant schedule when we are sick. We look forward to getting together with you and Kim. I also forgot last night that at least one of the old hotels , the Donoho[I didnt spell that correctly] I think , is supposed to be haunted. So I guess you could tell Kim yall are going ghost hunting lol. I had ameeting at that hotel a few years ago and one of the ghost hunting t.v. shows had just packed up and left that morning. They claimed to have made contact. I am not sure but it might have been the ghost of common sense cause I sure aint seen him around much lately lol.

There's supposed to one in Livingston too. She's gonna have to start contacting some of these places to see if they're open. I'm happy just driving through the hills listening to AM radio, but I guess we'd better do something she wants to do.
