Deep well pump

Got to replace my well pump 160ft. deep. What brand of pump should I look for? The one I have is 29 years old can't find brand name on it.

we have a submergable pump in our well, it is 300 feet down a 400 foot well and then pumps 365 feet to the house. I do not remember the brand. have had a myers pump. it lasted several years but rock dust from well drilling ate it up. motor was fine but the pump part was wore out. found out later from a cousin a myers motor would fit a Jacuzzi pump. have had pumps from lowes also which lasted for several years. at 300 feet down I do not like to pull it if I do not have to. I would guess a plumbing supply would possibly have a better pump.

Is it a submersible, is it really down 160 ft? Pumps should never be right at the bottom of the well, they will pick up too much silt. I have had good luck with pumps from Menards, but time will tell. I thought about ordering one from Surplus center, but them Menards had a sale!

My brother works for AY McDonald, they make the pumps in Dubuque Iowa.

I have a grundfoss, that is what well person sold, it is down 285' and has been working for 14 years.

Red Jacket Grizzly is in a well I owned in Montana. It is at 475 in 520 ft well. If suspended above silt and mud, it can be a 20 year pump. Jim

What ever you get, Be sure it is one of the new type that can "Spin" up to what ever pressure you want to set it for. And you don't need any big tank anymore! the tank is about the size of a basketball. My email is open if you have any questions. Jim in N.M.

Have several wells on ranch with submersibles about 450 ft deep...believe they are Franklins. Work fine except for lightning strikes which will take them out or lessen their longevity. Check with your local water coops and see what they use or recommend.

Have had two to go out in 40 years. Lightning got them both. Bought the last one down at the local hardware. Can't remember the brand. I think he sells a couple different brands.

Franklin is top choice but there are several other brands that will do a good job.
I have a 525ft deep well with the pump at 500ft that fills a 40,000 gal reservoir for my poultry operation. The Franklin 2hp pump we have pumped 11 million gallons in 8 years before lighting got the motor, the pump end was still good so we replaced the motor and reused the pump end.
We also have a Franklin pump in our 400ft well that supplies water to five homes.

You mean a vfd drive pump, expensive and a lot of controls involved, good in high volume applications and such but personally I wouldn't want one in my house. Atleast a traditional pump is simple and easy to diagnose, a vfd controller is a bit out of the realm of most handyman.

I've worked in the water industry for 20+ years.
Franklin is a very good pump and Grundfos is also a very good pump.

Only one brand that I would endorse, Gould. A jet pump ran for 40+ years at my parents house and I have a submersible pump 100' down hole that is in its 16th year with no problems.

No matter the brand and HP the pump portion should match the application . The deeper the lift height the more pump stages. A deep pump in a shallow well wastes power churning water through the extra stages .
The three phase pump in the well has no start windings or starter to fail. The three phase uses less power per gallon of water lifted. The three phase pump is powered from a constant pressure controller/VFD which is supplied with single phase.
