I posted a picture of a wheelbarrow air compressor on tool talk a couple days ago. It would run pretty good when just started, but once warm you couldn't set the mixture. After looking at the carb, it was obvious that the housings had deformed over the years. The bowl was easy to fix, sandpaper and a flat surface took care of that. The top section was more of a challenge. Luckily, I was able to chuck it in the lathe and turn it. I need to get a milling machine! I had to take off 0.020 to get it leveled out.
Also Teflon pipe dope works as a gasket sealant when working with gas.
Thinking of JDSeller's post about the 4020, sometimes we need to look for things that shouldn't be wrong on this old stuff. This is not the first time I've run into a carb that wasn't sealing well between the two parts, and it can make you pull your hair out.
