Farmall H tractor

Need to help a friend wire a farmall H right now there is a wire run to the coil from the kill switch doe it go the +
or - side of coil? then a wire comes from generator to the amp gauge which side does it go on? then a wire from
the amp gauge goes to the battery? or the starter? also forgot where should the power wire for the kill switch
come from? also where does the lights get there power from? thanks Howard

Make sure you are looking at he right diagram. The picture explains much better than words!

You state it has a coil, so I'm assuming it has battery ignition. If by chance it is a magneto, the kill wire goes to ground to kill the engine. Nothing about a magneto ever connects to the battery!!!

The polarity of the coil depends on the battery polarity. If it still has a generator, it probably is positive ground. If it is positive ground, the - terminal of the coil connects to the ignition switch. If negative ground, the + terminal of the coil connects to the ignition switch.

If it has been converted to an alternator, it will be negative ground and will need to remain negative ground.

The best way I know to determine the polarity of the amp meter is to watch the needle, see which way it swings. Turn on the ignition, lights, with the engine off, should show discharge. If backward, reverse the leads.
