Soybean spray?

Does anyone on here ever add something to their soybean spray to stunt or stress their beans? I have been hearing lots of talk about adding an ounce or two of 2-4D or banvel to a 20 acre mix of round up to stress the beans and cause them to put on less stalk and increase their pods. One local farmer has several hundred acres they just did this to(they look real bad right now) I farm some bottom land and am thinking about it because we sometimes fight white mold and a shorter smaller plant would be better. We did go to 30inch rows to help. Years ago we put on a different spray for thistles (Cobra I think)and it beat them up real bad. They were short and looked like maybe 40 bu beans but at harvest they were some of my best at around 60 bu. Thanks Tom

Dynap used to burn the beans in hot weather, Several fellows always claimed that the beans would yield better after being burnt. I never used the product so I could not tell you either way.

Tom your 30 inch rows may give more space for air but it also causes taller plants.

Kip Cullers holds the soybean yield record. He always burned his beans a bit so that they would stool out. Essentially the theory was if you make the growth stalk mad it will shut down and the plant will stool out several branches which produce beans. If you read some of his research it tells what he used and when he did it. I can't recall what the improvement was, but it paid for the additional pass through the field.

I've never done it but thought about it.

in the olden days------before RR beans------we sprayed a tankmix of classic/pinnacle/fusion for our weeds. if you blended the pinnacle at recommended rates, it burned the beans (i always used 1/2 rate). We've never approached the yields that were accomplished in those pre RR bean days. 24d actually accelerates growth and cause the plant to stress, itself, trying to grow too fast! I'd sure wanna experiment on a real small field for a couple years before going whole hog!

Use Cobra, about 6 oz with 32oz powermax, it will bronze them pretty good, also some crop oil and AMS in the mix. We are mainly doing it for the waterhemp problem we have in Iowa. I did this last year on 35 acres that were full of flowers, I was hoping I didn't wait to long, but they ended up being my best beans at 63 bu/ac on some marginal ground. This year I am going to spray the same mix a little earlier, actually I have done one field already that has had some giant rag in it, will do the rest this or next week.
