another spray question

neighbor wants me to spray his 4 wheeler trails through the woods, he has some roundup and the instructions are all ounces per acre, I have a 200 gallon sprayer, can anyone tell me how many ounces per gallon I should be mixing. JIM

Most herbicides will have a "spot spray" recommendation- just multiply that by your number of gallons. Roundup and Weedmaster (2,4D) are both 2 oz per gallon, IIRC. JRB's recommendation of 2.5 is probably better for stuff out in the woods.

(quoted from post at 14:23:06 06/18/16) 2.5 oz per gallon serves me very well. May need to add more if weeds are very tall.

That's what I use with the 41% glyphosate in the 2 1/2 gallon jugs . Some of the smaller bottles may be only 18% .

For about the same price you can get 2,4-d which will kill the weeds and not the grass . I don't mind the deer eating the grass ahead of me on the trail .

My tank does not recirculate so I add about 1/2 once of dawn soap per gallon which helps it stay on the leaves of waxy plants without beading up and rolling off . If your tank recirculates it may foam up and be a mess .

If you use roundup and have hilly ground you could have erosion problems. If you use the 24D as previously stated it would leave the grass to help with any erosion control.

First calibrate your sprayer so you know how fast to drive to apply 10 gals of mix per acre. Then add enough herbicide, like the others I's go with 24d or better yet the Grazon +. to get 1 quart of herbicide in that 10 gallons.

I am not a good judge of distance or acreage . I know I want X amount per acre and I have lots of irregular shaped areas .

I found on Google maps you can find your land , right click your screen and pick the last option from the pop up window "Measure distance" . You can keep left clicking to add more dots around the perimeter of the field until you reach the starting point . Then it will tell you total distance and square footage (43,560 sq ft = 1 acre)

Now I know how much 2,4d I need or when it comes time to clean / stock the ponds I can give an accurate size when asking for advise .
