One thing is for sure. This piece of machinery would NOT be OSHA approved.
I don't know what it is but I don't have one so I must need it!

would think its a logging winch to go behind a crawler or a tractor. The way the hitch is made makes me think more along the line of a crawler.

I don't know about that one. But my father-in-law ran a "buckeye" field trencher, instaling field tile. He did a lot of muck ground and was stuck many times. He rigged a winch mounted on a 2 wheel trailor. It was driven via a PTO through a 4 speed transmission . It would just craw along at a very slow speed , just what he needed to get through the "low" spots. That thing would pull a tractor into two pieces post haste!
This link is to a trencher very much like his except FIL's machine has a live front axel. That man could hold a "grade" as good or BETTER than the new lazer machines!

Wow! Ok. Any idea who or where something like this can be sold?

Any idea where to sell or who to sell this thing to? It has been sitting for entirely too long and should belong to someone who appreciates it.

I was wondering if it is something that someone manufactured from maybe an old haypress? A rigging to get some beltpower from a pto.

I meant to say I've seen them used in oil fields to move pipe around and set derricks.

I agree, it does look like some sort of antique winch. Where are you located? If you're not too far I might be interested in it
