John Deere parts pricing.

I knew J D parts ain't coming cheap but i found out they are getting plain criminal!!.
I needed a transmission lube pressure sensor/switch,..little tiny 1/8 NPT body with a single spade terminal for the lube circuit and a volt meter(plugs in the dash gauge cluster)for a 8640 4WDr tractor i have recently acquired.
I just about got a heart attack when they told me the price!.
$ 134 for the sensor and $ 232 + change for the gauge !!.
I told them to keep it as they are obviously made from gold and diamonds and i don't care for neither gold or diamonds.

I later happened to find an identical sensor in a box with odds and ends in my old shop so i am good there and i guess the tractor will run fine without a working volt meter.

I just hope that that old girl don't pull any more tricks on me that requires parts with prices like that although i don't hold my breath.

Seems everyone is proud of their parts anymore. Agco and CNH is right up there also...and I think Kubota is too.

There has to be some formula that all manufacturers use to price their parts. I am sure that a lot has to do with whether or not it is still used in production. Lots of times you can just google a part by generic name and find a replacement or sometimes even the exact same thing for a tiny fraction of what the equipment manufacturer charges. I wish somebody's kid living in the basement would start building data bases of OEM parts suppliers.

I needed a brake band for a pto on a JD tractor. It is just a small stainless steel band, about the size of a 2 inch hose clamp, with a thin coating of some friction material on the inside. The price from JD, $900. Did not buy it but made friction for the old one and it works as good as ever.

I agree all parts are high. I just bought a 4 ft X 1/2'' hex drive shaft for a Vermeer disc mower and it was $258.

I realize Canadian money is worth less than US dollar but are you sure your dealer isn't pricing parts MSRP + XX%?

AR90148 Voltmeter - VOLTMETER ADD 154.21 USD
AR88260 Pressure Switch - PRESSURE SWITCH ADD 85.46 USD

Your tractor is 35+ years old. You should be happy that you still can get parts for it. I bet if it was a different color you most likely would not of got as a part for it. John Deere can still support there products.
Get a sensor for a brand new tractor and/or a truck and you will be happy with what they quoted you.

LOL CAT was also good at making sure one part won't fit another CAT machine. Worked on 330Cs and 330Ds at the mine, crazy how hardly anything would swap.

Recently we bought a new JD mower, and I was checking online for some oil filters for it, I usually use Wix, and O'Reilly's is as
good a place as any to buy them. They were going to cost $13 each, so my wife checked JD parts for some, and they were $8.50 each,
so, we just got some from the dealer when we got the mower. Now their oil is a different story, that's not such a good deal!

Most of our equipment is JD and I think JD parts are reasonable especially when they do service machines that are several decades old. If you want obscene then go to CNH. I don't think that in CNH's situation it is 100 percent on the dealer which tells me Fiat may be struggling worse than what the general public knows. I know that being the "General Motors" of Italy is the goal of Fiat but several decades of trying that should have told Fiat that they are not doing it right.

JD should be proud that these old tractors are still in the work force, instead they decide to punish their owners for trying to keep them running.

I still can get most parts for my ancient seventies era Cockshutts and Cockshutt/white doesn't even build tractors anymore since forever.

Then one wonders why anyone in their right mind would buy brand new trucks and/or tractors,..I know i don't.

I have 2 different dealers within 20 miles of me. I have found using deere parts.com that on 20-40 dollar items there can be up to a 6 dollar difference in price. Of course now I
cannot get the website to work. I can't imagine the price differences on high dollar parts.

yes parts are just stupid. i just priced out a muffler for J.D.60 and its 186.74 and the exhuast pipe is 278.00.
that is totally rediculus! and i do remember buying those 2 cyl. mufflers for about 60.00 years ago.

If anyone follows onelonelyfarmer on you-tube the planetary drive broke on his CIH windrower. He just needed a little gear, and NH wanted $1700+ for it! The sun gear was like $5400+? and he could buy the whole assembly for $3400+ Rediculous!

That is the reason so many find tractor's that have been "farmerized" I know there are a lot on here that get bent out of shape when they buy a 40 year old tractor that isn't like it came from the factory. When the bottom line is the most important you have to improvise. Last year I needed a circuit board for my backhoe. Terex wanted $1500 for a 4x6" piece of plastic with a couple of transistors molded in. I needed it for the forward reverse shuttle so I bought $50 of wire, relays and fuses. It shifts as well as it ever did and now it can be repaired if needed.

i've never really figured it out. I had a steering line blow on my 6400 lasy week, and had to order it from Caneduh. It was
overnighted. I can only imagine what the bill is going to look like> I had to get two o-rings at the dealer to get it back
together. $3.81 for two o-rings. No wonder farmers are having so much trouble.........

pick my O rings up at my local hydraulic shop, they have just about every size known to man in stock at a fraction of dealer price. I often get them for free if need just a couple of them.

Hydraulic cylinder seals are also cheaper there than at the dealers,..most times at least 1/2 to 2/3 cheaper.

If you feel so punished by Deere still supporting their product line, then trade it in for something else. A lot of the other colors prices will be a lot cheaper, as the dealers can not give you a price when it is no longer available, well I guess then it would be priceless.

I'm not defending JD but on some parts such as some filters they are very competitive on prices. One example is this fuel filter(parts key 12) utilized on older JD Dubuque/Mannheim built utility tractors.

AT17387 Filter Element - ADD 6.52 USD

Try CAT, CIH , AGCO or any of the European makes. You will be fortunate if the part is even in inventory and the price won't be any cheaper than Deere.

One of the parts in question...the oil pressure sensor is apparently a common Bosch sensor and can be had for under $20 at my local bumper to bumper I found out yesterday. If Deere wants nearly 7 times that then i call that.. extortion!.. and has nothing to do with support of a product line but gives the impression ..We at Deere don't give a rats azz about your brand loyalty,..we milk you dry if we can.
