Firing order is 1, 3, 4, 2 Check direction of distributor rotation and put plug wires in order to agree with the firing order. Beyond that, it's everyone for "HISSEF" without being there in person to help and try.

Put a thumb in #1 plug hole (front) roll the tractor or bump the starter to find compression. Turn the engine till the second timing mark aligns with the pointer. The rotor should be pointing to #1 plug terminal in the cap (truthfully it can be pointed anywhere and be OK, if you turn the distributor so a plug terminal is aligned. Call this #1. (it is at the 2:00 o'clock position originally. The dist turns clockwise, so the #3 goes in the next hole, then #4, then #2. Use a test light on the terminal to the coil on the side of the distributor ignition of for a minute or two). Turn the distributor back and forth till the test light is just trying to go out or stay on. lock it down, put the plugs in and it should be OK. Jim
