I have a friend offering to sell me his D19 for $500 it runs buts needs some transmission work won't go into 3rd but he has another transmission too. It has a 3pt hitch needs some more paint don't know a lot about it is it worth getting back to its glory days

Hard to beat a $500 deal since you could part it out and make twice that. That said if it is an early D-19 they where known to have transmission problems. AC liked to up HP but not improve transmission so they had some issues with thing like that

Very few allis didn't have transmission
problems . The d 19 was a nice tractor but
didn't have live pto or hydraulic . When
you put the clutch in everything stops. The
d 19 diesel was I think the first turbo
farm tractor.

Didn't D-19s have the hand ckutch/power director? That would have been close to live PTO and hydraulics.

D19 had live pto and hyd. That"s what the Power Director (hand clutch) is for. It is not Independent- there is a difference.

I'd grab it. Not going in to 3rd could be shift forks or shifter problem.

I have a D19 diesel and if pulled hard it will occasionally jump out of 2nd. (3rd & 5th, final ratio). But the way I use it, I rarely pull it that hard.

I always liked the D19's. Still a good old workhorse.

When I started baling little round bales
with a WD I thought I had died and gone to
heaven. Quite a step up from a jd B.

D19 gas or diesel??? The diesels had head troubles. The gas where fine. The diesel is more collectable. For $500 you not going to get hurt. They are asimple machine to work on and with an parts transmission you would not have much in it other than time.

Just quite before dark swathing hay with my D-19. It was used on the baler a lot till we got the 986 IH. If the D-19 had a cab, it still would be the baling tractor. No foot clutch to hold down while putting string on.

I'd sure take it for that, gas or diesel. If it is a strong running diesel it is a real deal. If it has the optional front pump that is worth $500 alone.....you have to look for it, it is hidden behind the grill.
