How true! Except I think that it has to take planning way in advance at the highest levels in municipal government. Two main routes through a nearby large town with traffic held up on both.

In the Austin area officials "plan" for decades till traffic comes to a halt, then spend a decade building one toll lane and say "Look what we did to fix traffic".

A week or so ago I was on Ohio st. rt. 118 which is the detour route for US 127 closed for construction. Came upon a long line of stopped traffic, there'd been a wreck. Traffic began going on a side road, went a mile west, turned right, went a mile north and from there THAT road was closed too! Meaning there was a detour of a detour of a detour. Might as well stay in bed.

There's definitely a "road construction conspiracy". LOL

Must be especially frustrating when driving a tractor and trailer.

Is worse up north? Just wondering because they have to cram ALL the road construction into the months with decent weather... whereas, down south I assume they can work on it year-round.

Construction in Ohio is bad but ODOT usually publishes the closures way ahead of time. If you don't read the internet connection you will never know. My biggest gripe is when there is an accident, the police block off the entire road, and don;r even try to keep some open lanes.
almost always there is one lane open but no, they keep it closed just for the h--- of it .

The worst posible state is illinois, they take FOREVER to do even a small job. The worst roads are mostly in the south.

Just did a road trip from Arizona to Virginia with The Wife and grandson via I-40.Road construction in every state we passed through. People pull some crazy stunts, thought a couple times that some one's going to get hurt.

Here in Northeast Louisiana, we currently have US 425 closed for the filming of "Wolverine". This is a major 4 lane arterial highway and traffic has been routed onto the local two lane roads. Supposed to last a week. Hollywood said they needed a 4 lane divided highway with corn fields on both sides for the film. I doubt I'll see the movie but if you do-our area may be seen in it!

I would have bet that Pennsylvania was the worst. Interstate 81 is just one continual construction zone year after year. LOL

I shut down an interstate once when I was second on the scene of a fatal accident. The truck was on its side in one lane. the body in the middle of the slow lane, and a shoe in the breakdown lane. I thought of kicking the shoe into the right lane so that traffic could go by in the breakdown lane, but thought better of it. I asked the third car up to position his car diagonal to both lanes and everybody got the idea. Needed to block the whole road.

Hey mb58! I did not know that. My daughter and her family live in Franklin Parish. Is any of the filming going on there? Or just where?

You can sure bet most highway construction jobs around here will take 12 weeks. That's how many weeks are required for them to work so they qualify for employment insurance benefits so they can have the winter off fully paid.
