My windows 10 question

What are the reasons for getting w10 other than you'll have to change some day anyway? Faster? My W7 is fast enough. Better security? From who?
Or maybe I should ask... .why DON'T we want W10? Wasn't there something about built in spyware or government tracking or something. Those in the know, please fill us in.

Microsoft changing people over to W10 without permission and disrupting people's lives makes me want to resist just based on principle.

What's in it for me? Or more importantly, what's in it for them that they are trying to switch so many people for free? Nothing is for free. There must be a reason for this massive push.

When have you ever received a major software program from them that didn't cost a small fortune?
And all of this prompted and pushed by them without your asking let alone your permission? Something stinks about this. Could somebody please explain?

I can't think of a reason to change now. I may be inevitable that we'll have to change at some point. My computer downloaded W10 a while back without my permission. It slowed my 2 year old laptop down so much that it was almost unusable so I went back to 8.1. It was also saying that I would have to pay for some things that came with 8.1 for free. I'll hold out as long as I can.

If you have windows 7, there is no reason what-so-ever to change to 10 until you are absolutely forced to. I've had 10 in my computer for a couple of months now. It's better than 8.1 and that's about all you can say for it. It doesn't have the user features on it 7 had. (or at least I haven't found em yet) Every time Micro Suck changes programs it takes about a year to figure out how to use the stinkin' thing. I know for a fact there are things you can do with XP and 7 you can't do on 10 because my confuser geek guy was griping about it.

I thought I heard somewhere that there was a limited time to change for free, then they were going to charge for it.I'm sure there is something in Windows 10 that is an advantage to Microsoft but I don't know what.

All I can say to any of you,if yours hasn't updated, and you get a message telling you a time and day that it will,FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT'S HOLY,TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER!

I caved and downloaded 10 last Sunday. Bob Rankin of the Rankin File website has a lot of tips for 10. One of which it how to go back to 7 or 8 if you don't like it. It's supposed to be a better platform for future improvements rather than new software releases. I guess we'll see.

What's in it for you? Nothing that I've heard - Windows 7 will be around for at least another four years, by then you'll need a new computer anyway.

What's in it for them? Advertising is built into the operating system. Today you go to a web site and see ads in your browser, often based on your browsing history or searches. Windows 10 moves that onto your desktop - with Microsoft helping itself to your computer, monitor, network, and using information on your hard drive to decide what ads to show. Think of yourself as a revenue stream for Microsoft every time you turn on your computer.

I downloaded W10 to my 3 month old computer that was special ordered with W7 because I heard so much bad about W10. They talked me into trying W10 and so far I like it, it works better than W7. They tell me W7 is still on my computer and that I can easily go back to 7 within 30 days. (When I open my PC or my computer, there is a file there that says it is W7). As to spyware, I wonder how much less spyware was already installed to my W7 as security updates, so unless things change, I am satisfied with the W7 to W10 switch.

My computer guy says its simple economics,Microsoft only wants to have to service one and that's 10 and they'll keep making it more difficult to use anything else.
I have 10 and it works fine getting it set up right in the first place is the key.

I had 7 and one evening I turned on the computer and it automatically down loaded 10.There was nothing I could do about it,even warned me not to stop process or shut it down.I resisted for a long time but I hate to admit it but I like it now, just don't tell anybody.Ron

Change the windows update setting to ask permission before installing
updates or turn them off completely until August 1st. That should keep 10 from installing.

I think they are getting info to someone somewhere for advertising is why 10 is "free". There are ways to stop or slow some of it. Microsoft said some of the workings of it is to give you a better experience, which may be more convenience but I would rather it not and let me decide, especially if I want it. I think there are a lot of things in the operation of windows 10 that are hidden is part of the problem. Windows 7 is slower on my computer the last couple months with internet explorer and at times it freezes. I even wonder if Microsoft is purposely messing with updates so people get frustrated and go to 10.

I have 3 computers, 2 with windows 10, my oldest one (7yrs) is on windows 7. I am having a hard time using w-10. It is also different on each machine. After almost a year I still go back to my old machine. Soo much easier to use. Maybe being 84 has something to do with it but I think not.

My 2 year old laptop came with 8.1 and I hated it. Downloaded 10 and never looked back. I have another laptop with 7 and honestly I notice
little difference between the two. Been postponing the upgrade tho.

"All I can say to any of you,if yours hasn't updated, and you get a message telling you a time and day that it will,FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT'S HOLY,TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER!"

If you get that message there is a link in the middle of it to
postpone or cancel it. That link would be a better choice.
Clicking the X to close it or turning off the computer still
schedules the update on the date specified.

It is different, give yourself a little time to get used to it.
I have been running Windows 10 since the first developer's
preview release. I wouldn't go back to any other version of Windows.

I have it running on computers that are 8+ years old without issue.
A couple of customers have had printers too old to work without
new drivers and one had a 15+ year old program that wouldn't
work on it. Other than that, it seems to have worked well for them.

What I [b:4dbd214ad5][i:4dbd214ad5]would[/i:4dbd214ad5][/b:4dbd214ad5] do is get familiar with changing the security
settings to select what data they collect. Every time they release
an update it seems that they reset them all to their defaults.
Those default settings collect a lot of information.
Information that can be sold to the highest bidder.
Same thing Mozilla, Google and Facebook have been doing.
Microsoft was a little slow on the uptake on this one. ;)
Give it away to catch up? Possibly.
