has anyone ever dealt with this kind of stuff?? been having minor fuel stoppage trouble ever since I got this 1070 CASE, 1st year it was dirt and crud .. now lately , I am finding vicks salve looking silicone looking crud in the hand pump ,,. ,,and I still have a occasional stoppage in the tank valve ,,. if I keep the tank full I am least likely to have trouble,..i have , removed and cleaned the tank valve and installed a 1 inch stand tube,to keep any crud out , and installed new filters numerous times ,.have run lucas fuel stabilizer , currently trying a bottle of red red heet, each time I fill up ,and have poured in a gallon of 303 hydro fluid,to a full tank also . to aid in clean up ,. all of these seem to get some sort of result ,,. but that salve looking stuff is perplexing

Although algea I've seen is black looking I'll guess you need to treat the fuel tank with fuel conditioner that contains biocide.

Hello 01gentdc,

Fuel quality is usually not the issues, storage and unit tanks are. I don't know what that 303 stuff is but it would better used for its intended application,

This looks like somewhat of an advertisement, but it does sound like the problem you are having.

You can get a biocide from your fuel supplier. Had the same thing a few years ago after using soy diesel. Put some in the supply tank and in each diesel tractor.

tell your fuel supplier to bring you premium diesel fuel, it contains the stuff to control the algae.

Listen to the guys saying to use a biocide. I had the algae in my 4430 years ago. I would plug the tank valve so bad I'd have to drain the tank and pull the valve to clean it. After doing this a few times I figured it out and added the biocide. No more problems.

My brother in law has a JD 4020 on 5 acres. just a toy and he wanted me to look at it when it wouldn't run, the inside of the fuel tank looked like it had a black ceramic coating on it. Told him it might be algae but I've never seen it. He checked with the fuel supplier and he said yes, Had tank boiled out and spent some bucks to get it running.

I'm sorry this is off-topic, but that's never stopped me before. The 4020 in the 5 acres reminds me of a farming family I knew in southern Oklahoma on the Red River. They farmed several sections and had a Steiger 1000 when they first came out. The owners 80yo mother live on the property and still had a vegetable garden. The hands would take the fences down on both sides of the garden and the son would run his Mean Green thru the garden with a folding disk, at about 10 mph. He'd make a couple passes thru then the hands would put the fence back up. He said it was the smallest tractor he owned!!
