woodchuck trap, a little late

Going back to GlennF's post, Here's a picture of the trap I have. I have only seen one other at a tractor show in Pa. Has anyone here seen one like this? There used to be a special lever for setting it that got lost when FIL loaned them out to his BIL. Very dangerous to set them without the lever. I use an old valve spring compressor. Used to have two but I got lazy about staking them because they always killed.

I guess I was wrong when I said your trap sounded like a Conibear. Its not the same but it is the same concept with the same end result. It does look like you better be paying attention when you set it.

My dad borrowed them years ago for his garden. He was holding it between his thighs trying to set it when it got away from him. Didn't get anything precious but did get some hide. As long as you hold it by the springs you're safe but it's a little tricky to get it down the hole.
