New tractor ideas

I have a 120 acre farm that we are developing to run cattle on. I currently have a Kubota 3830 4wd tractor but I would like to get into a cab tractor. I need 4wd, cab with heat and air, front loader in the 50 to 60 hp range and diesel. I have looked at a bunch of different manufacturers but would like to hear from guys who are more knowledgeable. Of course I would like to get the best price but I need something that I am not going to be working on everyday or waiting on parts from all corners of the world. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I suspect this is the last tractor I will buy as I am retiring in a couple of months. I will be mowing, moving hay bales around in the winter, and pulling log carts up and down hills in my retirement. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

(quoted from post at 14:15:26 06/06/16) Kubota, John Deere, Case/IH, New Holland are the names I would choose from.

I have no personal experience with them, but it seems that Mahindra also has a good reputation.

I vote for all of those and I never thought I'd ever say it but in that hp range maybe even look at Kioti? A friend of ours has one and absolutely loves it.

I'll second Kioti. I've used newer John Deere's, Kioti and a Kubota and if I have to use a newer one with a bucket, I'd pick the Kioti any day. I find it more comfortable and easier to drive. Loader stick, gear shift, foot throdle, all in just the right places.

If you have been happy with your current Kubota, and your local Kubota dealer, why would you switch brands???? If you have had issues, I could see your reason for looking at other brands.
There isn't any other brand better than a Kubota. Just good and bad dealers for all brands. so go out and "buy a dealer", not a tractor.

In all honesty I'd say you need a bigger tractor. You can get by but if you're going to be handling round bales of any quantity then you'd be better off in the long run with a 100 hp tractor. Mind you it's not the hp you need but the size and weight to handle bales without tearing up the tractor and loader.
Go on tractor house and look at a CaseIH 5140 or 5240 for an idea what I'm talking about. Myself I'd go bigger yet with a small Magnum like a 7120. You can never have a tractor that's too big for that kind of work.

IF you are buying the Kioti to USE what you say may be fine but if he keeps it 3 years and passes away his wife will find the Kioti will not be close to what the KUBOTA or JD are worth. Resale is just not there with the off brands. And if one compares the same tractor features the Kioti does not offer a price advantage over either the JD or Kubota.

We have a 50 hp 4000 series jd. Cab and air. Ag tires. What ever you get, be sure and get the premium model. 2 hyd outlets plus loade r joy stick. We have a grabber on front and a hyd top link. Can just use one or other. Can't mow hay with it because mower takes two hyd outlets. Seems like every think takes lots of hyd power.

I agree kubota, or John Deere , red or blue fiats . Not so much on the others , I think all have flaws and all have good spots , I also believe the perfect tractor does not exist . I own a few kubota' s and 1 newer John Deere , not as fond of the newer JD tractors I prefer older IH and 2 banger John Deere' s , simpler and easier to use for most of my projects , not all that's why I have some newer tractors.

I have no input as far as a tractor goes because if I were developing a farm to run cattle if be more concerned with fencing, water, and developing a good management intensive grazing plan that eliminates as much tractor work as possible. Not helpful to your original question but that's where my concern would be nonetheless.

I don't agree on the resale value in our area. The Kioti/Mahindra/LS tractors are holding value compared to the big boys. If you pay 5 to 10% less new you can expect to sell it for 5 to 10% less on the used market. That is just what I see around here though.

I own a Kubota M7040 that has unloaded/loaded 100's upon 100's of 4X5.5 rd bales without a failure. Granted larger tractor is more stable but my Kubota unloads 18 wheeler loads of hay just fine. My tractor has cast rear wheels with liquid ballast in rear tires plus I have a heavy counter balance on the 3 pt hitch.

If you have sticker shock on the new ones, I agree that the Case/IH 5240 or one in that series is great choice for a used tractor. Even more so if you have a good dealer nearby.

Good point, when it sells for less up front it will sell for less as a used one. I think as the dealer network expands and more get used in the field folks will get more comfortable with the Asian brands and we'll have less of this "off brand" crazy talk.
