Makin Hay Whilst the Sun Shines

Finally getting the sunshine needed to put up some pretty thick brome. We don't ted hay here in Central KS because it's usually too dry in the first place. This year has been extremely wet lately, but dry early.

I have a wide road ditch I usually do that lays in between two fields. It was definitely thick in spots as well. Here are a few pics of some of the cutting and although I usually don't need to rake hay, I did Saturday just to help it dry a little as the humidity has been very high.

Last night I small square baled about 70 bales the old fashion way with two guys on the wagon. I need to get another 70 or 80 tonight and I will try to get pics of that for the nostalgia. The rest of the hay will be large rounds, but I like to get a couple of hundred smalls just to have on hand. Bob

Forgot the pics...hehe!

Finally a weather window here.

We are mowing later this afternoon. We'll see how the Hesston 1110 mower conditioner works-out. The MF32 sickle mower is at the ready if the Hesston renders itself useless in the middle of the cut.... ;-)

Fingers crossed!

Bill

The 1110 was a great swather when they are up in good condition. My guess is you will think you died and went to heaven..lol! Good luck

Maybe I can get started tomorrow. I've got some more corn to spray today. Hopefully those brake discs will be here today for the 105 so I can get them in before I start cutting.

Randy,
Did you get the vibration problem on your 1850 solved yet?

Glenn F...who's busy chasing woodchucks....

I've got to get the ole Gehl 1875 out tonight or tomorrow and get it greased up and ready to go. I put it up in good shape last season, but as you know sometimes the bearings can just seem to go out while sitting in a shed over the winter..lol! You've given me good advise a couple of times on the Gehl baler, I know you run them as well. Prolly need to holler at you again before it's all over. Thanks again - Bob

I'm almost positive it's the front engine mount. The 2-135 started doing the same thing and the front motor mount bolts were missing and the rears were a little loose. BM and AllStates both have one for the 1850,I just don't have time to mess with it right now. Been spraying with it on level ground and it's alright. I just need to stay off the sidehills with it.

The pipe on the front is called a knock down bar. It helps lay the crop down in an effort to allow it to be cut better and pulled into the auger. Mainly for tall crops such as sumac type canes, what we call sowed feed. It can get 7 or so feet tall. If it was cut it would probably fall over the back of the header so the pipe pushes it over to aid in the feeding. Bob
