John Deere lawn mower need help

Normally would ask on Lawn mower forum, however there is not much activity down below. I am asking this for my Mechanically challenged brother who resides about one hundred miles from me. machine is a John Deere GT275 lawn tractor.The area of concern is the fender deck, not mower deck.There is a shaft through the fender deck having a knob which must be removed to remove the fender deck. It's called the mowing deck adjustment stop. His problem is HOW IS THE KNOB REMOVED so the fender deck can be removed. He has the 4 bolts removed and now cannot get the knob removed. On some you have to loosen the jamb nut against the bottom of the knob.

the ones I have worked on just push on so have so he should be able to pry it off with a towel and a small bar under it...make sure he puts the bar under the solid part of the knob next to the shaft and not the outer larger part to keep from breaking that part off...they can get tight over yrs of use

RiI has it right, loosen jam nut, then screw the knob off.

On the GT 275 the deck height adjustment knob just slides on and off. It DOES NOT have any jam nuts.
