Hydraulic questions Ford 640

I have a woods mower on my 640. I would like to know how to limit the lift on my hydraulics so it won't lift so high and damage the pto shaft. Thank you.

Put a mechanical hard stop on the lift lever.
Could be as simple as a wingnut ,couple of washers and a bolt that you manually set in place in the "track".
Raise your 3pt till the lever hits the stop..takes a minute to put on take off.

It should not be doing that. Things are designed so tat cannot happen. Has something been modified? Correct lifting arms on tractor?

You should be able to set the height by setting the quadrant lever. If it's raising all the way without the quadrant lever being raised all the way, something is out of adjustment. .. or maybe it's set in draft control, rather than position control?

Nope. Everything just the way it left the factory. When the mower is lifted all the way up. The pto shaft comes in contact with front of the mower. I thought there might be some way to reduce the travel.

When I raise the lever, the arms go up and go a little more. I have to push the lever down a tiny bit to stop it. So there a lot of play and slop. A hard stop would have to be installed way down on the travel of the lever so it doesn't keep inching up more than I want it. I already put a new piston seal in it and new fluid.

Shortening the top link may help avoid that problem. ..but it may also change the angle of the deck while you're mowing.
I'm thinking that you either have it in draft control, or the linkage under the top cover is out of adjustment or worn.

The mower I have on the NAA had a notch cut in the front to clear the PTO. Not factory, but works.

Do you have the 1 1/8" pto shaft in tractor or 1 3/8" shaft? Any tupr of extension? overrun coupler that would place the shaft farther back? Yhat could make it do that. Or top link mount made for a cat 2 hitch could be tilting mower too much. And draft or position both will only lift to same spot, just quadrent lever will be in a different spot and on draft setting with lift down bounce will make it change height while cutting.

No extension of any kind. It has a new 1 3/8 pto out the back. The woods hd 60 works fine. Maybe I'll do some top link adjustments. No odd parts on this baby. That's why I'm stumped.
