Well here's a good Craigslist story.I had a set of tractor tires and wheels on the local CL been there a week or so,got an email from a guy about 11AM he says please call him as soon as possible.I give him a call he has had something on his disc mower of some type come loose and cut his rear tractor tires beyond repair. He's 200 miles away and says he can be on the road
immediately about 4 hrs later he shows up buys the tires and heads home. He's happy and I am too.Actually I've had a lot of good deals on CL buying and selling.

Gary, I have had good luck selling a few things on CL. Have bought a couple of things and done well also.
The worst thing that happened was when I went to look at a golf cart about 10 miles away. Had the money in my pocket and a trailer behind my truck. Golf cart was not what they had made it sound like in the add. Worse than that, I felt like I had walked into the scene near the beginning of the movie "Deliverance". Much of it was filmed in our county and adjoining counties.
I made a hasty retreat.

Not the out come I first thought when I seen email. I NEVER use the email function as that really seems to bring on the scammers.

I too have bought and sold several things through CL. Many low priced things I just want rid of. A local paper ad would cost more than the items !

I don't know why every item I seem to think I'd want is clear at the other end of the search zone ! Nothing is close to me.

The thing i like about Craiglist or any other ads today is the photos. 30 years ago you would travel a hundred miles to see a real piece of you know what
the statement (nice shape) means alot of things to some people but pictures take a lot of guessing or atleast not wasting travel time.

I've never had a bad cl buy. Maybe i'm just pretty cautious. So far, everything i've bought off there has been in better condition that described.

I have bought from CL and no problems. I respond to only the adds that have phone number. I as a lot of questions and make it clear to seller that if I come to get item and its not what they say it is I will walk away from it.

I've only bought one item off CL via email. Year Around cab for an 06 series Farmall. The add did have pictures and it was all there, with both doors and intact glass. No number listed. I sent an email with my number and the guy called me within about 15 minutes. About half the going price here at the time. When I got there the seller told me that he had installed a new blower motor the year before. I paid for it, went and got my trailer and picked it up. Seller used a tractor and loader to load it and helped tie it down. All the other CL items had numbers. Was only on one wild goose chase because the seller misrepresented the item. 400 mile round trip goose chase. That was an old crawler loader that the seller claimed had a good undercarriage. The actual condition was shot. The track pads were about thin enough to shave with too.

And I will hardly ever respond to one that only has a phone number, I like email responce better, fact is that is the way I just bought my truck a month ago.

I will never list my phone number as I would not answer questions anyway. If people want to look at something that's fine and if they take their time to drive to look at it then I will take my time to answer questions. I would never answer phone questions for tire kickers.

I am not a tire knocker but ask a lot of questions before I buy something. I don't waste my time looking at cr--.

Lots of guys don't answer your question with Email or don't give you the answer you want (to much messing around).

Maybe I'm missing out on potential sales with no email ?
I may try it again ? but I sure do hate all the spammers that come with it.

When I changed struts on the Tundra, I bought a new spring compressor set at the auto parts store as all their loaner sets were so worn that I was afraid to use them. My wife convinced me that I was too old to ever do that job again so I advertised the spring compressor set on CL, with a pic. Young fellow came and bought the set for $5 less than I paid for the set. He was happy as he didn't trust the worn out loaner set either. If one of those hooks came loose when the spring was loose, it could do a lot of damage to whatever or whoever was in the way of it's path.

I will add one more to yours sir the picture tells what it is. example: tractor ad says Farmall m and its a super c!!!!

I and the wife have had real good luck buying and selling on craigslist....We never list a phone number...If they email us and its sounds like they really want it,then we send them our phone number to finish the deal..I've bought stuff on CL without even making a phone call..

I don't understand the concern about phone numbers, but we only have cell phones. The scammers text and want us to email them, and we just delete those.

If you use the CL phone number box you will get scam texts.
I disable that function and put my number in my ad and then spell out at least one number. Only ones interested will call that way. But still get plenty of no shows or ones that show without as much money in their pocket as they bargained you for over the phone.

When we used to put a phone number in a CL ad,about all we got was people calling and wanting to visit..Most weren't serious....After we went to emails only,we got serious buyers and got stuff sold without being on the phone all day and half the night..I and the wife rarely use our cell phones (I use less than 6 hours per year) and we don't text..We will answer any serious email and finish the CL deal on the land line....The few spam emails that we get are easy to spot and get deleted quickly..

One time a guy wasn't able to make it up here to see a CL item but in a few days we were going to to a doctors appointment in his town located 60 miles away..He loved it and paid cash on the spot at the place where he worked..We have met lots of good people thru CL..

This was a CL find.. 2 months later it was spotlighted on Max's Tractor Shed on This Week In Agribusiness.

If you don't leave a phone number, I can't buy it. My email service will not let me respond to craigs list email addresses.

I buy and sell on Craig's list. e-bay has gotten pretty worthless for selling tractors and equipment. Fees are too high and many buyers don't pay. I fill in all of the blanks with text, phone, and e-mail. Phone calls are sometimes long but I enjoy visiting with the people. Texts can go very well but often go back and forth for weeks with them not buying anything. I see no difference in phone, text, or e-mail. Some people are good buyers and sellers and others aren't. There are a lot of great people in this hobby / business. The scammers are very, very easy to recognize and I just delete them. If I get a questionable text or e-mail I just tell them to call. If they won't call I figure they are a scammer or aren't really interested.

I do not text. So I only use email address and when I first send something I say direct off that I am verry hard of hearing so phone does not work for me.
