The view from the office

It's dry! Kind of. At least it is dry enough to spread urea for milo and get 45 acres of hay on the ground. Things are about to get stupid busy. They are predicting a week without rain. That's not enough time to get everything planted but it will certainly help.

So whats the deal with running your tractor with the loader way up in the air? You have GPS , still need the extra visibility ? I always keep the loader low when doing field operations with a loader tractor. Never had a problem seeing where I am going ,and no GPS , and No accidents either. I am not the safety police , just don't get it .

I'm not a fan of staring at the GPS. It makes me nervous. I have my line snapped and after I get turned I get to the coordinate the GPS needs and then put a horizon point between the spear tip and the hood center. Most of the fields here are also bordered by timber so the loader has to be up to get close enough. I've just gotten used to it being that way. I also have a phobia about driving down the road with the loader down. If some nut is going to look at their phone and swerve and run into me I want them to hit the tractor not the spear. I just end up leaving if up all of the time and then I don't bonk my head on it in the barnyard, either. Habit, I guess.

Ideally, I wouldn't have a loader on the planting tractor, but I also have to use it to lift the big bulk bags of seed. There are four loader tractors around here but those bags are super leavy. The 7800 has the power to lift it. I had thought I would take off that loader during planting, but not with the way I get seed now. It's also baling 150 bales today, so having the spear on it helps.

Certainly not criticizing either, because it's best to do what suits you the best, but that loader in the air would drive me batty. But then I'm kind of weird that way..lol.

Glad to see you are getting in the field. Should be able to start planting here in Central Ks in the next day or so on the higher ground. Dropped some brome last night and calling for thunderstorms tonight here by Salina. Hoping not..! Bob
