First Tractor - IH 464 Gas - where to start repairs/restorat

She is not a looker but she runs well. Seem as if the previous owner had neglected the wiring and cosmetics but took great attention to the mechanical maintenance.

I have been looking to start to require the thing (I am an amateur, but will have help).

I have been looking all over for a wiring diagram. Can't find one? Anybody know where I can download one (not free, I'll gladly pay).

Thanks in advance for the help. I am sure I will be asking a slew of other questions on here.

Update:

Found this online. Don't know if it's correct? Any thoughts.

Congratulations, that's a really nice tractor when running properly. You really want to get the proper IH service manual; Jensales publishes it, and it's not cheap but is essential. That tractor is not like a 460 but rather a later version (essentially identical) of a 454. The diagrams you want are at http://cngco.com/wiring_diagrams/IH%2054-74-84%20SERIES.pdf

You'll find parts diagrams (and a physical layout of the wiring harness, not an electrical diagram) at IH parts dealers like messicks.com.

a_joseph_pe,
My second tractor is a farmall C. I've painted all my tractors, use them and soon they look like they did before you painted them.

Advice don't spend a lot on paint. I got implement paint at Rural King, hardener, and thinner for around $50. I have spray guns and shot it myself.

Putting paint on a working girl, is paramount to putting lipstick on a pig. Pigs love rolling in the mud.

I even used a 4000 psi pressure washer on tractor and did more damage that good. You can ruin gaskets, get water in every part of tractor that has oil. Use soap, brush it on and rinse off with a hose, no pressure. You may have to scrape off dirt, use wire brush or drill or gringer, good luck.

I like the red lipstick still pops, but she is a hard working dirty old girl. Very special too, it was my late mom's. Engine was overhauled. She's my 1950 zero turn 72 inch Cadillac ride lawn mower. The boss thinks she is the best mower. She mows with it all the time. Boss grew up on a sod farm, experienced driving tractors.

Thanks guys. I bought the IT shop manual but really want the wiring diagram to fix some broken wiring. It runs great. She will be used for post hole and mowing primarily. I have a 2250 loser with it too.

Thanks again.
