Beware of bogus Amazon charge

On checking my credit card bill I spotted a $99 charge for Amazon Prime. That's something I never signed up for and it could have sneaked through but I had very few transactions this month. I emailed them a not so nice message and got the charge removed. TDF

I like prime, if not for free shipping on some items, I would keep it for the movies.

I don't have cable or satellite, I have Netflix and prime. Cheaper and we watch what we want when we want.

May like it

They were just sure you had wanted to sign up but had forgotten. Just trying to be helpful. I don't understand how anyone could turn Amazon down :)

I can't bring myself to pay for Prime. Usually eBay has lower prices including shipping for the same thing, from established vendors.

Must really be something going on with Amazon. Not long ago I found a $105.00 Amazon charge to my debit card and I don't have an Amazon account.

I never heard of the REAL Amazon sucking up your CC info from the depths of the 'net and making a charge against someone's CC!

So what's the REAL story... did someone with access to your CC sign up for a "free" trial of Prime and "forget" to cancel, or was it a total scam from some outfit posing as Amazon?

The REAL story is as stated above. No more. No less. Defend them to your heart's content. Ta ta. TDF

I'm NOT defending anyone, just wondering what the real story is, and I would think you would be too!

Amazon didn't just pull your CC # out of thin air and put a charge on it.

If they or a scammer somehow got your CC # did you cancel the card?

Think back a ways.
Did you buy something off amazon and take advantage of the free shipping offered with prime?
If you are one of those strange people like me that actually reads the fine print before pushing buttons you would have read that after a free trial period they would charge you for a years subscription to prime.
If you do not use/take advantage of the discounts they offer you can contact them and they will cancel and refund the prime fee.
I did this a few years ago when I purchased and sent a gift to my mother (A large pressure canner) the savings in the purchase and shipping of that one item made it worthwhile and at the time I felt the subscription could easily pay for itself several times over in a years worth of purchases.
I chose to not cancel before the trial period was over and like you were charged a yearly fee.
After 8 or 9 months I realized I would not be getting any use out of it as everything ships by courier.
The courier companies will not drive their pretty trucks down the gravel roads to our ranch.
The only option that would work would be find a business in a town the couriers will deliver to and make arrangements to have the package delivered to them.
As the nearest town I can do this at is 30 miles away, the money I burn in fuel getting there and back quickly makes a good deal not such a good deal.
I contacted amazon and as I had not used the prime subscription they had no problem at all cancelling and refunding the fee.
So many sellers are loosing out on business because they only ship by courier.
I have come across many good deals that I have had to pass on because the postal system was not an option for them.
I used to purchase quite a bit of stuff from US sellers on e-bay but now that most use the global shipping program which will not deliver to P.O. box addresses my buying has dropped 90%.

You must live in the wrong area. I too live on a dirt road and usually get a couple of deliveries a week from "courier
companies". BTW, I agree with Bob, how did they get your CC info to begin with? Me thinks you clicked on something
unintentionally to begin with.
