Russel,

Thank you for the pictures. I always look forward to seeing them.

On the other hand, I don't know much about Arizona. I've driven through there twice, and I managed a short project one time in Tucson, but that was my only exposure to the state. To be very frank, at the risk of insulting you, which I wouldn't do for the world, I must ask myself why anyone would want to live in that God-forsaken country. Those horrible mesquite thickets around and south of Tucson are just disgusting. The gravel "lawns" around the houses are unbelievable. They say that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I guess my eyesight is just too poor to appreciate the area.

Tom in TN (green grass, hills, and forests)

I love green in the summer just so it is back there! We have some green out here and here at home even snows pretty good some times. The good part of living here is no/little mowing to do, few bugs to ruin time outside and not many days of humidity. First time my parents came down to visit Dad said several times, "it sure don't look very prosperous".

I have become a desert rat to the point I don't like going back east where you can't see far because of the trees. Western Kansas where I grew up is ok when the weather is tame. We have to be careful now when we go back during bug season cause mosquitoes and chiggers know when there is new blood in town!

Yes for sure going up over Flagstaff it was always a snow storm. Then when you get back to the desert it would be hot. But also dry. The place I could never understand was Barstow Ca. What in the world the first man ever seen in that place I could never figure out. I used to fuel up at the flying hook truck stop and walking across the lot I used to think about that. Where I came from I used to tell folks that we had 10 months of winter and 2 months of poor sledding.

Had the same thing years ago...6 inches of new snow in Flagstaff, elev 7000 feet, while Phoenix, elev 1081 feet, was 70s and sunny.

Thanks for the pics. Looking at the second pit the clouds in the back ground make it look like the driver has a white halo around the head. Hope they are clouds or it this something else that only the camera can see?

Railroad and water for the engines. Next was Route 66. Then WWII and military base. Then after the war it was a stop off for going to Vegas from L.A. A lot like Kingman AZ
