Can't keep mower down

I have a TO20 1950 and have been using it to mow with for years. This year it keeps lifting the mower up off the ground no matter how I set the control lever. In fact the control jumps up by itself. I do have chains on the mower up to the top link connection but they have been there for years. I did have a Zane thing on it last year but it broke. To use the mower now I have a wire holding the control down. An help will be greatly appreciated.

They did not have that on them, only built in draft. Position did not come out untill the TO35 in 1955 while the Ford 8N got it in 48

the cork friction pate on the lever is probably loose. Tghten the nut. There is a method that we call "Marlowe"s Method" after the poster who first. Look in the archives. It will allow you to set your cutter up so that it places the top link in compression and will hold position. on the mower. described it.
