speaking of crazy lawsuits.

No less a source than 60 Minutes announced this story to the world, where a workman set up a ladder with its base in some frozen manure, and as the heat of the day kicked in, his ladder slipped in the now less-frozen manure, and he fell and hurt himself, because he is an idiot. He then sued the ladder company because they didn't stop him from being an idiot -- they should have put a warning label about manure.

Not sure of the outcome of suit, but ladder company said they lost money just hiring a lawyer. If I recall insurance company paid off to end the suit. If you know more about this, please post.

sounds plausible ,.. in county government ,, we occassionaly get sued ,,. tort claims and so forth ,,I recall a case we settled for 5 k .when I knew damwell the guy was a crook ..trouble was .we will have to spend 15 k to prove we were right and to prove the plantiff has no valid case .. my intitial offer of 2500 was scoffed at , but within 24hours they come back with 5 k,, I was pizt, and was out voted by the other commissioners,,but we saved the county 10 k ,.not really ,, that no account cost the county 5 grand and was derilict of his duties every day he worked for the county . .

Being full of poo would be easily explained if he landed on his butt.

I posted this in response to a previous post about landlords getting sued for allowing tenants to have dogs, dog bites.

Right or wrong some people get sued because they have deep pockets.

That is really crappy.

Don t take this wrong, but people deciding it is cheaper to pay than fight is why there are so many of the lawsuits.

Is he really stupid? He just sued and probably won millions of dollars. Even if he lost it most likely won't cost him anything.

Most times it isn't the actual person suing but the insurance company looking to recoup some of their loss. My neighbor worked as an actuary for a large insurance company that insures trucking gcompanies, he can tell all sorts of stories.

In most cases the merits of a suit are irrelevant. What matters is the financial status of one of more entities which through mind-boggling suspension of logic plus devilish legal chicanery can be brought into the suit. The legal maneuverings then commence, until one side or the other runs out of money. By then the lawyers on both sides have been well-paid, and the case ends with no one but the lawyers having benefited. I'm convinced that any person or company which has been identified as having a significant pile of cash can be raided and robbed by an unscrupulous lawyer (is that redundant?) who sets out to wet his beak in the pile.

I think that's why the airlines want you to strap in to those floatation seats in case of a crash in the water. They know you'll go upside down and drown so you can't sue.

That's a new story. I heard that one more than ten years ago. Or maybe there is more than one idiot. Kind of like the guy that trimmed his hedges with a lawn mower and cut his fingers off.

I had two personal lawsuits I was involved in

I had a rental cabin, guy fell asleep on couch and his head pushed the pillow over the arm and onto the electric baseboard and caught fire, instead of using the fire extinguisher 10 ft away he grabbed the foam rubber pillow and carried it out the front door dripping foam fire thru the house and badly burnt his hands--he was a past fire chief and sued me for 1 million cause i didn't have signs that the electric baseboard was hot--insurance co settled for $7k just to get rid of the suit

second was when i was director of bridges--guy ran thru the warning gates as the drawbridge was opening, he jumped the 10 ft opening and crashed landed on the other side and got killed--family sued saying the traffic signal wasn't red and warning bell not working. had to prove in court the interlock system on a drawbridge only allows the next step after previous steps are verified electrically---basically yellow light for 5 sec with warning bell, red light for 5 sec, gates down, locking drawbar pulled, then span can raise. they lost!

I corrected you on your previous post, and you post this anyways. The ladder was advertised to hold 1000lbs, and broke at way less than that. He sued because he was injured, because the product didn't do what it was advertised to do. If ever there was a time to sue, this may have been it.

Like most anecdotes, this one is a deliberate distortion of fact. A quick Google reveals there more to the story. (Or as that old prevaricator Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story")

The ladder in question broke.
6 frivolous lawsuits

That makes sense because no warning sticker on the mower that says, "Don't hold mower up in the air and trim hedges with it".

No fingers needed...LOL!!!!

Don't laugh - we did that.

My uncle had a Farmall H with the old Horndraulic
manure loader on it. We backed his Ariens rear
engine rider into the bucket so just the back wheels
were in and put blocks behind the wheels. Then we
chain it so that the rest would hang fairly horizontal.
We started the mower and turned on the blades.
We then went back and forth along the tall hedge. It
was an outstanding idea except that we all had to
take turns because everyone ended up maimed
from flying evergreen branches. It didn't stop us of
course. We just got bandaids and got back in the
rotation. Eye protection? Who needs that??
