suggestions on installing zinc trip to roof

Would it be a good idea to drill hole in the coiled wrap of zinc strip(size of nail) before installing? I know your
going to have a hole every 12", but easier to nail zinc into shingle

Hole spacing won't be uniform if that matters to you. As you get closer to the center of the roll, the nail holes will be closer together.

Besides, it's so much more fun pounding your fingers into a bloody pulp trying to drive nails through the zinc.
 
Use 1/4 inch zinc coated (hot dipped) drive screws, and screw right into the strip and into shingle in one step. Jim
