If a private individual would have done that in there back yard the EPA would have parachuted in to nail your arse..

I wounder what it would have cost to claim one if they found your stolen bike... I bet it would be more than the bike was worth.

I once brought a 1974 hd electra glide from a local that brought it off a guy in the service. A year later something did not look right with the serial number so I called the local DMV they came out and checked it and found it was hotter than a 2 dollar pistol. The history traced it back to Cincinnati Ohio were it was stolen The PD found it and sold it a auction. In the end NC gave me a custom serial number to sweep it under a rug because NC had also fudged up by letting the title go thru there system that did not have a valid serial number.

I got calls from the insurance co and the Ohio DMV wanting to know were they could pick it up... I told them to call the Cincinnati Ohio PD...

Assuming the fuel and oil was drained what would be the problem with doing it this way? They had them on hard surface , should have been easy to clean up.

We auction them here. It takes a few months to get enough vehicles to hold an auction, but dirt bikes and scooters go right along with the cars and trucks. That is just stupid to destroy them.

Well.... there was certainly some nitwits involved.... although I'm not sure they are one and the same as implied by the article.

The destruction of any kind of property like this is just plain STUPID and WASTEFUL....but it's a government agency so it doesn't surprise me .

Seriously, they probably had to spend money to rent the two machines, or at least pay to get them on site. Then they had to pay money to get the machines on site, and prepped to destroy. In other words, it probably cost the snot out of them to destroy them instead of using them to make money.

There's no reason they couldn't have put them on a site like Govdeals and sold them at auction, AND MADE MONEY to put into the coffers, instead of wasting what was there like most governmental agencies tend to do.....

Good job for a D6. They aren't very big. I hope that NYPD got a deal on it since they used taxpayer money to purchase it. Then again, NY streets and allies are kind of narrow, so I guess that it'd fit in ok with whatever the NYPD would typically need a dozer for.

A lot of these things aren't street legal, and some are homemade. I think most of this is a public relations stunt, that's why it's published.

Would have been funny if the 6 had thrown a track or got a bike wound into the carriage as a nice reward for that stupid stunt...
