Engine runs but engine dies.

I am posting this subject because I have seen it posted today. Most of the time i get a call from a person with the same problem. I go to there place and start to get to work and what I check for are these things. Most of the time I find a person who has rebuilt a new engine and they have tried to cut coast on it. This is the list I check. fuel filters are they cleaned or been replaced with new ones. fuel lines are they bent but not tight kniked to restrain the flow of the fuel. Is the carburator been rebuilt or is there a new one on it plus the float leval is right. Have the spark plug and spark plug wires been replaced. Here is the trick to find your problem run the engine and till it dies than pull out a plug and look at it see if it is wet or dry. this will tell you if it is fuel not spark. If there is not spark the plug will be wet of fuel. On most old tractor we forget that they can run with out a battery that is if the generator is working. from 1930 t0 1960 The tractors had pionts and condensor. This does not have to have a eletric draw like the newer system require (those that have high voltage and computers systems). If you think that it could be a faulty generator and not haveing enough voltage first do the test. If spark plugs are dry or wet? when engine dies. this will answer your problem. A quick and easy way to fix and could save you money in parts.

I forgot to add that any engine to run needs these three iteams. (1) spark (2) air (3) fuel if you do not have these iteams the engine will not run.
