Surprise,no charge

I had a loaded 15.5 38 go flat on the 1550. It was leaking right around the valve stem. I'd just had that tire put on a year ago and suspected it must have been a new tube. I figured I must have run over a nail or something. The tire guy just left. It was leaking right where the metal part of the stem was molded in to the rubber. He said he'd been getting a lot of those, and the darndest part was,it was American made. He said no charge,it was under warrantee. Don't get a break like that very often.

No kidding. Last one we had to have pumped out to have tube replaced was $350. We always do our own tires, just not the loaded ones, as we don't have the pump and valve to fill it. Next time we'll just get the stuff and do it ourselves.

I was tempted to buy a pump and do them myself when I was younger, but now that I'm older,to heck with it. I used to be able to rent a pump from the co-op in Butternut for $10,but they closed quite a few years ago. Discount Tire in Crystal still isn't too bad on price.

I drained most of the fluid out of the last one I fixed myself by setting stem on bottom and pushing broken air hose line over stem and draining most of the fluid. I had the tire and wheel off tractor and held up with boom. I put in a tube and put it back on the tractor then pumped fluid back in with an electric fuel pump, took some time but did not cost anything.

I let the air pressure blow the fluid out and much as possible, then drill pump the rest. I use a utility pump with a plastic case to pump it back in. Been doing it like this since having Hub Tire do it went over $200 a pop.

With us, it's been happening much too often that the valve stem breaks loose from the tube. We did recently get one replaced free of charge because it was only a year old. We pump the fluid out and back in with a "Pacer" transfer pump plumbed to fit the valve stem base.

rrlund when I was getting ready to leave the tire business, health reasons, we started to see some of that. That was 10 years ago. The only cure for it was to use heavy duty radial tubes.
