I'm probably in the wrong forum but lets give it a shot. I bought a leaf vac with a Hercules d2300 4 cyl diesel motor the problem is when the engine is sitting outside water gets into the oil. the exhaust was changed and a new cap was installed on the air intake, still water in the oil. the oil was changed last year when it was stored today there is water in the oil. any ideas would be appreciated.

If the "water" is coolant ignore the following. Mufflers on vertical exhaust pipes can leak water into the engine at the
pipe threads. it does not seem possible, but it is common. Putting a can or rain cap on them would seem to be enough but
often is not. A new thread chasing of the connection, with moly or mica anti-seize compound will stop it. Jim

Ok i see that this could be the problem. if water comes in through the exaust manifold will there be water in the piston or just in the crankcase? and if will i need to remove the injectors in order to get it out or can i just try to start it and the water will go away on its own. un related question what is a good oil weight to use in this motor?

gently bumping the starter, or rotating the engine through 15 revolutiond or so wil allow starting it. Jim

I have a 1969 Yale forklift with a Continental flat-head 6. It gets water in the oil all the time yet has never had a drop of rain on it since I got it in 1989. Condensation
