Rear Tractor tires for the Retired group

Hello to all. Another rainy day in nw-IL. Would like to see suggestion on new rear tires for the Minn-Mo's. The UT has 12-38 and the UB has 14.9-38. Was thinking that 13.6-38 would be a good compromise. What is the best value in American made rear tires?
Anyone care to offer some pricing? Thank You for the help.

13.6 is a good compromise. However, the tractor with 14.9s may sit down a bit in the rear.As for American made? I think firestone is it.

my utu has 13.6x38 and I'm thinking 15.5 would be better but I'd have to change to a 14 inch rim . It has plenty of pull with the 13.6 but sinks fast . the 15.5 is a bit wider but the same diameter .

13.6 would not be a comprise as that is the new number for the old 12 that you have and what both tractors would have had new. Far as brand Firestone lost me as a Farm tire customer 30 years ago with their junk field and road. And at that time to get a tire the same size as any other brand in a 13.6 you would have to buy a 14.9.

The 14.9 is a step up from the 13.6. They fit on the same rim, and are basically the same tire, with the 14.9 having a bit wider foot-print.

The 12x38 and the 13.6x38 are not the same tire. 13.6 takes a wider rim.

That's the first I think I've heard anyone call field & roads junk ? What issue did you have ?

im interested too, i have a set of field and roads that are from the 1970's less than 40 % tread left now, but havent had a problem other than a few flats with them

I have heard a lot of BAD about the Goodyear tractor tires. Seems like they peeled the layers off or something ? I have also had some of them that looked like they were flaking off.
I have one guy always trying to buy the field and roads off of my 1 JD B. for tractor pulling I think.

Steve, the way I read it, it sounds like you've got it backwards. 13.6-38 on 12" rim are about the same height as 15.5-38 on 14" rim. 14.9-38 have a taller sidewall than both.

Firestone is quite proud of their tires, and you would have to be quite the proud patriot to not balk at the prices and look to overseas brands.

They're about the most expensive out there aside from Michelins.

I think mazemaster has it right. At least what I have been told. 13.6x38 is the replacement size for the old 12x38. I think the 14.9 is a bit taller than 15.5.

Sidewalls busting between each tread bar and not underinflated or overloaded. Had to put reliners in them. And working side by side with the 45 Firestons the 45 would run clean but the field and road always wraped in mud, would not clean, And the Field and road was the same size as one size smaller than the other model.

You will find the 12 - 13.6 designation on the same tire. The 12 is just the old way of sizing and the 13.6 the new way.

14.9 is the replacement for the old 13 while the 13.6 is the replacement for the old 12 and 12.4 replacement for the old 11 and 11.2 replacement for the old 10. The 15.5 did not have and old equvilent size but is same height as 13.6 and about 2" wider.
