My 2016 Camaro 2SS. A modest 455hp na. Fast enough for me. Any more horse and you better have the tire guy on speed dial. Know a guy that has a hell cat and he roasted his first set off in no time.

Fastest car i've ever been in was an Audi R8 spyder. 550 hp and 6 speed gear box. When the spedo hit 180, the driver let up on it. I was just a passenger. Other than that... 150 mph on my harley v-rod, according to the radar gun... too fast on 2 wheels!

Fastest so far is buddys 2014 vet. Back then he bought it came over wanted me to drive it.. LOL.. I said no thankyou.. he said come on.. SO I said if I am going to drive it than lets take it out where I CAN DRIVE IT.. so went out on a four lane highway where there is a stretch with no turn cross roads or drives.. I went down to make sure not cops.. whipped that sucker around and in sec.. i mean SEC i was up to 140 and it still had more to give.. at that point I decided that if any animal came across Id be toast so I backed it down..Funnything is he has a Austin Martin now.. didnt ask if I wanted to drive it... LOL LOL

Heck they make cars, if you have 250K or more to spend that will run well over the SLOW 204 MPH Hell Cat. The Texas built Hennessey Venom GT as fast as 270 with 1244 HP under the hood! Wouldn't want to pay that ticket! Imagine that! Driving your Hell Cat wide open and getting passed by someone running 50 or 60 MPH faster. Bang for the buck though the Hell Car, Camaro and Mustang GT are about the best option. All 3 very good looking cars even if one is a FIAT.

When I was young I'd of loved something like that. Now that I'm a bit older a pickup or Suburban is fast enough.

On April 8th, 2016, at night, a black Camaro 1SS was clocked at 171 mph on Hwy 61 in northern Minnesota. Deputy Sheriff pursued but could only get up to a shade under 140. (Many patrol cars are chipped for 140) However, the driver pulled over when he saw the red lights and stated he didn't know how fast he was going. Speeds like that are tame for the German autobahn where speeds of over 200 mph have been clocked during normal traffic. The all time official record for the autobahn however, was set in 1938 by a Mercedes W125 with a V12 engine. 268.8 mph.

There are several available that have more power than the tires or (most) drivers are capable of making use of.
I was at Northtown Ford in Menomonie earlier this week to buy a new-to-us '15 Ford Flex to replace our rusty Taurus. In the showroom was a 9,200 mile '14 Shelby Mustang GT500. 665 h.p. supercharged 5.4L V8 and a 6-speed manual. I would have LOVED to take a test drive, but with a $55,000 sticker, there wasn't a chance of that happening. Maybe if milk hits $30/cwt.

People forget the Corvette. Both for acceleration and handling, they outperform everything that costs two or three times as much. The Z06 is insane.

I did the same thing in 1976 with a new oorvette(milk prices were good at that time). Then fear set in and I wondered how I was going slow down. The end of the road was coming
up pretty fast. Made it with no problem and never did that again. Can not believe it was 40 years ago. Still have the Corvette and always say I am going to restore it.

I guess if one has to ask how much insurance runs...well , I'm sure they don't even bring it up. Things are tough all over.

Nobody ever complained about having too much horsepower, but most all complain about not having enough.

Pretty car. I would love to have the opportunity to drive one. Probably won't happen though. The Camaro, Mustang and Challenger are all nice cars and plenty fast if you can swallow the cost of the big engine upgrade, but the Z06 Corvette might be the best bang for the buck and you get the best of both speed and handling. Most of the old muscle cars never handled well, but in a straight line they were a hoot.

I was reading the news a while back and a guy in my area bought a new Hell Cat and it was totaled in 45 minutes from the time he drove off the lot. Article stated that it was unknown if speed was a factor. Are you kidding me? How could it not be in a single car accident on a deserted county road.

I have held the same belief for some time- you can find a couple of top-of-the-line Vettes from 14 or 15 still in showrooms, could probably be had for under $50K, or even less, especially with manual trans, which I would prefer. A heck of a bargain for a factory rocket. The handling is incomparable to the bigger muscle cars. I know one guy who drove his year-round here in SW MI, said it actually wasn't bad in the snow with Blizzaks.

I don't see much point to having a 200 plus mph car when the top speed limits are around 75 or 80 in some states and less in others. Does anybody know if there are still any states with no speed limits on some of their highways? Seems like some time ago, Montana or Wyoming had some highways with no speed limits.

You are right. A one or two year old Corvette can be had for a good price. Less than a new 1 ton pickup in some cases. I had a buddy that drove a Corvette year around as well. He said the same thing. Put some decent winter tires on it and it got around just fine. Many Corvette's are garage queens and never see a cloudy day. I hope to have one in the next couple of years and plan on it just being a driver. Why not.
I get the low mileage and heated garage kept car thing. It helps hold the resale value, but if you can't drive it in the meantime and enjoy it while you have it you are just keeping it perfect for the next owner so you can recover most of the investment when you sell it. What fun it that just to say you have one. Just me I guess.

That is a nice looking car and the best looking of all the retro styled muscle cars IMO

The fasted I've ever been was 140 mph in a 1975 Chevy pickup. They had to pry my fingers out of the dash. I don't know how fast I've driven. It was in a 71 Chevy Cheyenne Super, it registered 100mph and I had it wrapped around past 0 and starting over. Best guess would be around 115. I once was young and dumb but the roads were less crowded back then.

In 1967 one of my high school classmates got a new 67 Vette for being, well, their kid. It had the big engine (not sure which one) and was fast. We went to Abilene one night, about 150 miles away. He drove down and I drove back. Didn't take long at all, cruising around 110 or so. However, I saw this yellow car coming up behind us. It was an XKE with a little guy smoking a pipe. Passed us like we were doing 20 and left us behind. I tried to catch him but things were in his favor. That Vette was not going to catch that Jag. Not that night.

The fastest I have ever driven was 143 (radar verified, don't ask...) in a 61 Plymouth that was a surplus highway patrol car that never saw service. Wish I had it back, it was ugly and fast.

Buddy of mine recently bought one. He's already had it over 200MPH. His first ticket, he told me, the cop took it easy on him, and actually thanked him for pulling over, stopping, and waiting on him to catch up. Said the officer told him straight out if he hadn't stopped, there was no way he could have caught him.

The second encounter with an officer, so I was told, the man simply gave him a nasty look, and waved his finger at him. I guess he knew he wouldn't catch him either....unless he was allowed to......LOL

Seriously, it is a long of car, and it actually has an old school muscle car sound to it. To me there is just WAY too much technology in it for my tastes..........

I have driven a few race cars in my time. You learn to respect power. The problem I see with these cars. Is people buying them that can't handle the power. Know one kid that is dead and a friends daughter that is crippled for life. Because the kid that hit her. Couldn't handle the car.

Would be a fun drive. Tried to talk our local ford place into a drive in one of the ho Shelby's. He just laughed at me.

I don't believe the hp ratings of any of them. We grew up in the muscle car day's. You coulden't get 400 to hook up. Just too much umph. Add 3 more to it - ain't gonna happen. JMO

These cars have traction control and will hook up. IE: Computor controlled wheel speed sensors will not let a wheel spin and will allow fairly rapid acceleration without burning up very expensive rubber.

Fastest I have been in a car was 202mph calculated, could not keep speedometer working that was at 6500 rpm 273 gears. Now days a 100mph is around 2200 in high gear and they shift out of passing gear at around 6500 do the math on what late models would run without limits.

Currently I have a 05.5 Audi A4 with a 2.0T motor pushing 400 AWHP (All Wheel HP) to the 4 wheels which is roughly 475-500 crank HP on a 4 banger and pushing 25.5psi of boost and can run up to 30-35psi of boost but my tune is a conservative one for motor longevity.

I care nothing about speed limits. There is no such thing as too fast or too much HP. As long as one has terrific tires it is smooth sailing!

Assuming of course that your steering, suspension and brake components are in top notch condition as well.

If not, you are a fool and a danger to society in general, although your apparent disregard for speed limits indicate that you may be a fool regardless.
