I really cannot believe that some people just pull a number outta their derri?re with no research and expect someone to just buy whatever they are selling!!!!

Well the ad says it's a farmall John Deere so that's rare. As they say a fool and his money are soon parted, I don't doubt this fool parted with that much money. I doubt he will find another fool to get it back from tho

Tune-up and cover everything with a coat of paint is his idea of RESTORED.

Doesn't look like he has more than $500 in new parts.

I saw the ad over the weekend. I just read between the lines. The owner is gone and the kids are liquidating his estate. No research and nobody knows any different.

Its like the RARE old Troy tiller from the early eighties that's been for sale for about 3 months on Mi. Craig's List. Sooner or later they will see the light or they will listen to what the people in the know are probably telling them. If they ever plan to sell it.

I do not think most people realize the real market value of "restored" equipment, a few years ago it would have brought good money, but it keeps going down.

From the elongation of the drawbar hole, I would submit that it has seen a long service life pulling implements. John Deere! Jim

In early April I watched these (2) nice H Farmalls sell near DeKalb,MO....One brought $850 and the other $900...The $900 one had nearly new tires...I've seen running unrestored H's sell as cheap as $400....Theres tons of them around..

The nice Super MTA pictured only brought $3500...Started easy, good TA,and nearly new tires..

To a lot of people if they have never seen one before its rare to them. If you read ad the only thing he is saying that is rare is the crank and its not rare. You see a lot of this so called rare stuff on Craiglist and Ebay.

In their defense (why would I do that?), John Deere in the title helps people searching for JD tractors to see this ad. That's a reasonable strategy and not necessarily stupidity on the sellers' part.

And I wouldn't be surprised to see somebody with no knowledge of tractors actually buy it. Maybe they'll talk the seller down to $5,200.

I really see nothing more than what anyone here does to theirs when they post pics of their restoration, in fact, its not too bad. Should have painted the steering wheel. Im sure some them had over spray when new. As for the cardboard, I dont see anything on it, so apparently its not leaking. Now it does look like its sat outside maybe since it was painted, but other than that it looks fine to me, not 6 grand worth of fine, but still fine.

You obviously haven't sold much. You never know when someone looking for something just like Granpa had with no idea of what they are worth, but sees the shiny paint and has to have it. It's been said before you can always come down, but it's pretty hard to come up. I agree it's high, but if someone bites then he will look pretty smart and you will look...

I had a 1929 JD D that I had restored a few years ago. By the time I was done with all the work, new tires, tin, yadayada..I had right at $7500.00 in it. That is when it should have been worth about $4000 +/-. I thought what the heck and listed it for $7500.00 to see if there were any takers. I had a nice older gentleman jump all over it and still has it today. Whoda thunk it! Never know

I know what you are saying. A lot of people try to take advantage of the uninformed and get them to pay more than something is worth. Most of the people who justify such things are actively engaged in it. There is really no justification. Taking advantage of someone is wrong. But in this case, there may be darn near that much in the tractor. More if he paid to have it done. If you want a fully restored H, and the pictures are accurate, that may not be such a bad deal.

If he is,he'd better take a look at my post down below to see what H Farmalls are actually selling for..LOL

If I see a Farmall H that looks in good shape going for $400-$600, I think I'd have to buy it. Decent horsepower for little money, I should think -- provided I have shed space for it. I don't have any red around, but I'd hope it is no worse to work on that my Allis Chalmers WD.

Anything to watch out for on a used H?

I dont think its reasonable at all. I will not read any adv saying something like that. Even John Deere ads of A B D G H
advertising only a B I will pass on. Crooked to me . If I want an B I will search for that not all the other series.

That's cheaper than the one that sold for 30 or 40 thousand dollars. This one has new paint and tires.

If I hadn't bought the ER Wards that sold ahead of the Super MTA I would made it sell for more than $3500...They had to beg to get that for it...

Your idea of restore, his idea of restore and my idea of restore can all be different things. You go to shows and are a purist. He may have just wanted it to look pretty. Me, I feel that it is restored when it is back in the field working...preferably without too much money having been poured into it.

But wouldn't it be stupid to lure a person looking for John Deere to an ad for a Farmall?
Should be flagged.

I guess they can ask whatever they want to ? They may just very well of put that much into it but like my projects good luck getting it back out of them.
I did see an H bring a lot more than that a few years back. Darn thing had a TA which was added by the restorer and it sure sold good !! I forget the exact number but it was over $ 10,000.00
I sure hate ads where they put key words in there that are not part of the item. Sure makes it hard to find what you really want to find.
