Invest in Hickory Chips!!!!

I just pulled a package of 'Wright's' Hickory smoked bacon out of the fridge to fry up. Package felt light. It was 1.5 ponds weight! I paid $8.92 for this package.

I wemt to my freezer and checked a package I had bought about 3 weeks ago. It weighed 2.0 pounds! I had paid $7.82 for this package!

$1.10 increase for 1/2 pound less bacon!

So, the price of corn and soybeans are dropping, fuel costs are dropping, wages stagnant, meat prices are falling....

I guess...the only thing left is the hickory chips to smoke the bacon with. to warrant this price increase.

How else could you justify it?

Heard on the news yesterday that McCormick is facing a class action lay suit because they changed the tin [pepper I think] from 2 to 1.5 oz. As reported, the quantity was accurately printed on the tin, but somewhere, a law exists that packaging only contain air when it is necessary a la potato chips. Gotta wonder.

Just another good reason not to eat bacon! You can buy good pork chops or roasts for under $2 a pound, I don't know how they get away with it, but I guess some people keep buying it.

Speaking of rip offs....the other day I was in a convenience store for gas and on the shelf was a 2oz package of flavored potato chips. Price...$1.89!!!!!! The same day our shopper had a Fareway ad for 5 POUNDS of potatoes for $1.79! What in thunder could be in those chips that would cost that much????
As for your wondering, maybe they were curing the bacon with potato chips instead of hickory chips!!

Your post seems to indicate that the price of bacon is rising, not falling. Maybe in the stores...
I get what you mean, though. Less $$$ for the producer, more $$$ and less quality for the end user. People in tall towers skim the difference. Seems like we are all slaves to the economic food chain, but the real food chain is undeniable.
I suppose this will be poofed......

People are only slaves to the food chain because they choose to be,I raise around 80% of the food I eat including pork and am eating far better quality food than
comes out of the grocery store.Plus most people these days would certainly benefit from the exercise of doing things like growing a garden.

Hickory related - splinters maybe?

Some years ago I got a replacement hammer handle from your side.

Instructions to install went through a number of points and concluded with "Your tool is as good as new"
