Threading a 440 IH wire baler

I bought a 440 IH wire baler years ago and finally decided to repair it.

I need to know how and where the wire ties off too after its ran through the needles.

Threading the wire to the needles is not a problem.

I have a book but its not clear to me where the wire is tied too after it goes through the end of the needles.

40 years a go I used t thread a JD wire baler but the 440 evidently wires just a little different.

I bought this baler at a sale with bent/twisted needles because someone threaded it wrong. I have since straightened the needles but I need to know for certain how to properly thread the wire. New needles for this baler is out of the question. If I screw-up and break a needle, I get to park my baler.

So if anyone knows how to properly thread a 440 Wire Baler will you please be willing to help me figure this out.

I have been around the ih balers since 1956 and if you can straighten a needle and make it run you are a genius . Hope you the best of luck. If you have it threaded all the way thru and loose ends you tie off there at the bottom of the baler. I WOULD TURN it by hand thru a tie cycle to see what happens.

I've straighten 2 bent needles on my wire tie 47 - can't buy new ones and used ones are few and far between.

After you run it through the needles you run the wire out the back and tie it to tension cranks just like you would twine - at least that's what I've done in the past. After it starts on the second bale I always stop and clean up the wire before making any more.

Those needles are expensive and hard to find.

Does the wire run under the twister over the top of the twister after it goes through the needles?

I run it through the needle then down the bale chute and tie it to the framework on top of the chute by the tensioners - so I guess under the twister. When the needle swings up it feeds the wire into the knotter.

If you have doubts trip it and roll it over by hand. Then its ready to make a bale with the first hay that's fed into the baler.
