tonight's feature was requested by many. The topic is "Money Pits"
Next week's feature is by JaynNY. He wants to see tractor, equipment. or vehicle emblems.
Also Jeffcat would like to see bumper stickers.

My money pit. 1950 John Deere A. Purchased from an uncle in Nov 2011. Motor was stuck. Head was cracked. Clutch was stuck. Starter was beyond rebuilt. Both rear rims and all four tires were not useable. I broke the carb trying to get it apart. Found a parts A with a good starter, carb, and rims last summer. Every year I say I will have it done this fall but life keeps getting in the way.

OK, I know it's sideways, but anyways, it's has the potential to become a
substantial money pit.....not yet on the road, needs more dollars.... Ben

Why are Deeres green?....With all the money one sticks into them they take on the color, greenbacks and gold.

since we got it 2 clutches, engine OH kit: after a couple hours in field spun mains("new" rebuilt engine then installed). Needs complete hydraulic system OH(leaks, don't work right...)the thing makes Dracula look sober if oil were blood. Also needs PTO fixed, wiring/batteries(don't charge/hold) and the diff. lock fixed. Could use different tire on one side, has 1 radial and one bias, radial slips faster.

only had this 4400 combine a few years but on right track to be a money pit... New drive belts, cylinder bearings and solenoid and a few other things I forgot already.. Needs a electric system going over, don't start half the time.

Other pits, that I don't have pictures of, include the driveways(can't keep them flat no matter what we dump on or how many times we level) and the greenhouse(currently NEEDS new roof)

As a trim carpenter with a small shop, I have always been interested in a thickness sander. Found plans to build one for $200 and bought the plans. Open it up and find it is so cheap because they are using a table saw as the motor (remove the blade and install a pulley). I knew that was not going to work for me. Told the wife with needing a motor it would be in the $500 range. She gave the 'all clear' so I started. I enlarged it so I can go 25" wide and 48" long. By the time I was done I am just south of $1000! Oh well, guys tell me I can at least say I built it...! LOL

This is a video of its maiden voyage! I have since installed shielding and added dust collection ports.

Larry, I can not think of any money pits. Life has been good.
Most everything has come out on a positive side.

Sounds like somebody needs to take an operator class if he can't run a tractor with out burning the clutch out

Here's mine, this old Willys truck has had two engines, two trans. swaps, broken three transfer cases, one rear diff, plus numerous other shattered parts. It's been fun !

Dang, Thanks a lot Larry!
Just told the shop to rebuild my antique pulling tractor today!

Will post pictures of SWMBO later.

I bought this one cheap, spent another 2K on it and still need new rear tires and paint..................

Most definitely "children". Hee-hee...

BUT - though our savings account would be fatter... our life would have been MUCH poorer without those expensive little peoples in it. For sure - for sure!!

There have been a few but I guess the latest is my Dad's old 52 Mercury I have been working off and on for over a year now. He bought it in 1959 for $800 and I know I have more than that in new parts installed in the past year just to make it drivable (and stopping). Its been worth it though.

Not really a money pit and this is an old picture. Old Ugly dorF is home driving like a new truck after being out in different repair shops just shy of one month for a year. Six new tires, rebuilt front end and new brakes all around. After the transmission was rebuilt with heaver parts and better clutches it still took a shifter control switch to keep it from dropping to a low gear when at highway speed.
The money pit for me is on the trailer.

Someone told us that the previous owner burnt through a clutch every couple years as well. That loader don't help with constant riding(to inch up to something where 1 low is still to fast to let it out all the way)and shifting(forward/back).
