What can you treat the soil with to prevent weeds and grass in a watermelon parch. Morning glories, Bermuda ans crab grass? Thanks

Mellons are going to be killed by anything that kills morning glory. So weeding it is going to be necessary. Jim

I've found that other than hand weeding, all I can do is mulch heavily with newspapers covered by wood chips or other stuff to keep the paper in place. Once the melons begin to vine out, they take care of any stray weeds by shading them out.

I'm in the newspapers down and wood chips covering, then till it all in in the fall. Keeps most of the weeds out..

May sound stupid but I grow a few in the landscape around the house. The melons are on the rocks so no rot and no weeds.

The commercial growers around here use black plastic on a roll
and put the plant in a hole punched in the middle of it.
