pto not engaging

I have a 1999 Farmtrac 60. When I try to engage the pto lever to activate the bush hog, loud scrubbing occurs without ingaging. What should be checked first??

PTO linkage to startsee what it moves to enguage probably will need tear down and good luck with that brand getting parts.

Check the clutch adjustment for proper free play, about 1"-1 1/2". That model has the double clutch w/live pto, that's where I would start first.
Can you engage the pto with the engine off and then start it and it works if so then the problem is in the clutch. Parts are readily availability for
that tractor on the www.
