Sickle Mower

Good morning everyone. I'm located in Memphis Tn. and I'm looking for a sickle mower to use with my Ford 3000 or MF 230 and can't seem to find one. I wouldn't care if I had to repair it as long as it is repairable at a reasonable cost. I'm wanting it to cut around the edge of my pond. I'm tired of getting stuck trying to get it cut as close as possible. I don't like using a weed whacker on a 1 acre pond anymore either. If anybody close to Memphis has one to sell please let me know. Thanks.

craigs has them all the time anywhere from 500 to 1200 dollars. Make sure the bearings are good and you keep it greased, you won't wear it out.

For cutting ditches and around a pond you are going to want a sickle that can cut somewhat below horizontal. Generally this means you need one without a pitman. IH balanced head mowers are good for this and other manufacturers make similar. Whatever you buy, invest in a manual and follow the lubrication charts religiously. Most sickle mowers have at least one place that needs daily lube. Some need it every couple hours. Those places heat and burn up and parts can be a trial to find on some mowers.

I got mine off Craigslist I ended up taking a little mini vacation to get it but it's a 350 john deere and still has the stickers on it.

I just ran through Memphis farm and garden on Craigslist . I seen a 350 john deere that's belt drive 3 point for 650 . Just punch in sickle mower on search . Also a shorter bar is better sometimes because a longer one will drop down on the end making it harder to go over humps

What Dave means is you want one with a wobble box that drives the sickle not a pitman arm. A mower with a wobble box will cut in any position even upside down.
