Manifold studs

I have a ferguson TO30. I need to replace the manifold and want to replace the studs. The ones I removed are 3/8x 1 1/2. Course threads on each end. I believe the book calls for course threads on the head side and fine threads on the manifold sides, although I'm not staring at the manual now.
If I am wrong and the book calls for course threads on each end what is the harm if any using studs with fine threads on the manifold side?
I can get the right bolts for $8 each at the massy dealer 😠. I can get fine thread for the manifold side locally for 75 cents each. Is it ok to use fine threads? What's the trade off if doing so? Thanks for any input, john.

No problem doing that, they will work just fine. I like to use brass nuts on the small tractors I do that with, that way they don't rust fast to the stud. I'd be a bit more leery about using brass nuts on a larger engine or a heavy working engine.

I would think the ones for .75 will be softer metal and will stretch. Me personally i would use the right ones. Not saying the others want work but i wouldn't want to do the job again because i went the cheap route

That's the problem I'm having now. The steel nuts are frozen to the studs. Not a big deal as they are backing out of the head. Some are, some are not. That's why I want to replace them all. Brass nuts it may be.

The cheap ones will be fine . The fine threads will technically hold more torque, and should hold the nut better . Brass nuts are always a good idea on exhaust components .

I would be more concerned with the grade than the thread. If the aftermarket studs are grade 5 or better, they will be comparable to the original.

Unlike bolts, you have to rely on the packaging to determine the grade of studs. If there is no mention of grade, assume they are grade 1 or 2, which will be very soft.

I'm home and looked at the parts manual. It calls for 3/8x1 1/2 no mention of the threads. I must have seen the fine thread mentioned looking for the studs online.
So I called the auto parts store that I bought them at and they can only tell me what the box on the studs say. Automotive stud. Heat treated. Not a mention of grade so that's an unknown. They are that flat black, oily looking color of stud, If that makes any differance at all.
Also the book calls for washers and mine had no washers at all. I'll reinstall washers when it goes back together. Thanks everyone, any other thoughts I'd appreciate it.

John.........heres the deal; you kenn NOT tap castiron with fine treads. Gotta be COARSE. As fer yer studs being coarse on both ends, dunna matter. Just tighten the BRASS NUTS to 18-ft/lbs. Simple, eh? .......the tite Dell

Dell, the course end of the studs I bought go into the head that also has course theads. The new stud is exactly the same size and configuration. It just has fine threads on the manifold side. Sounds like I should be fine using them, thanks everyone.
