Read online that tide with bleach powder will kill the moss/lichen on roofs. Anybody try this or just a online fantasy?

Yep, it works - will take several applications, AND it ain't cheap. I've also had success with hose-on lawn moss killer. HTH

Don't know if it will work or not. But curious were you live that you have that growing on your roof. Its so dry were i live nothing like that grows.

When you posted about this before, I recognized from the pic that it was lichen so I looked it up and found about killing it with bleach. Because lichen is extremely tough, it was recommended to do it after a rainy day while it is still wet and soft. If you don't want to go that route, the key is still to use bleach but soften it up first. That is why Tide is recomended, to soften it up. If I were going to use laundry detergent I would want to do it in two steps, so that the detergent's surfactant has time to work. It neds just a few minutes so I would spray detergent first followed with bleach soon enough so that it won't dry in between.

Google up roof reviver. I have used their product for roof moss and kichen. It is not expensive and is easily applied.

I've used straight bleach (soak it good) with great results. The down side is that the damage will already be done in that the growth tends to lift up the stone grains from the surface. As rain washes the dead growth away it leaves "bare" splotches on the shingles. Years later we had roof damage from a tree blown down in a storm. The insurance adjuster saw the splotches and said 'Oh hail damage also? Looks like the whole roof will need to be replaced'. I said "Duh...oh yea...hail damage...I never noticed that part".
