Thought this summer while I was up in NY state I just might go across the border. There is No trouble going into Canada but The Good Lord help you to get back into your OWN country. You need a passport but all of the stuff flowing across down south doesn't! Get a load of the costs! Took this picture Thursday.

If you have an expired passport you can still use that with a valid drivers license.

Does your state not have an enhanced Drivers license? With am enhanced license you can cross the border both way with no Pasport.

Its says check or money order only. Does that mean that you cant use cash??

It's a cheap price to pay to get back home. I used to visit Camden, NJ on business a few years back. To cross the bridge from Philadelphia into Camden was free. To get back to Philly was $4.00 and you were glad to pay it, especially as it got later in the evening.

It was $3 the first few times I went. Last two times it was $4. I've been retired for 4 years, so the last time I was there would have been probably 5 years ago. Still, I'd gladly pay $5 to leave Camden. I was told that once you get away from Camden it's not too bad in southern NJ. The fellow I worked with most often lived in Cherry Hill, said he grew up on a farm there.

And if you have ever been in jail , busted for pot , or drunk driving , you still can't get out of your home country even with a pass port. When I crossed into Detroit last year border guard was more interested in asking me about my farm , and how many cows I had , than he was in looking at my pass port. Guess he don't see too many old farm boys.

It's been that expensive for a long time, and the price hasn't gone up that much since they made passports good for ten years.

Every adult should have a passport. Just do it.

BTW, roughly half of the immigrants who are in the US illegally entered with a valid passport and visa.

We crossed into Canada by snowmobile last winter. When we went in they held the four of us up for close to an hour, but told us that it would make it quicker for us to get back into US. They apparently went into the database and checked us out. It worked because when we came back in five days later it took only a minute each.

I have never had a passport and have been to: Bahamas, Mexico, Canada and the Cayman Islands so far. Get your State on board with an enhanced drivers license if your only traveling to the Caribbean or The Great White North.

Currently only a handful of states offer enhanced drivers licenses. Which will give faster results: Coughing up around 150 bucks on a passport application, or writing letters to your elected representatives, asking them to do their job?

I live in northern NY state and travel into Canada every month and a half.I haven't held a passport since I left the USAF in '65.An enhanced drivers license does it for me.Prior to EDL ,photo ID with a birth certificate worked and before that when you were at the customs house you were asked a few questions(name,address,destination,purpose of visit,are you bringing anything back into the US)Maybe look over your vehicle and send you on your way.Painless!Yes a passport works too.

Even a bit more for a Canadian passport. Remember the CDN $ is about 30% shorter than a USD.
