Grille Guard Expanded Metal

I was wanting to add some expanded metal to my new tractor for added protection in the front. I do not want to weld on the new paint so I was thinking of making a metal frame to fit inside the grille guards sections, welding the expanded metal to that and then use bolts to secure it. My other thought was to bend the expanded metal to fit inside the grille guard sections and then bolt that to the inside of the existing frame. Anyone have any other suggestions? Just trying to keep it neat.

I made this receiver hitch for my 2555 a couple years back, then you could make a detachable grill guard, or whatever you want. I use it for adding a drop down drawbar for pushing wagons into the shed, I also have a 2" recover hook for pulling logs, I added a cargo carrier for hauling extra seed bags when planting and picking rocks. I have a vise on a receiver for fixing round baler belts. I pin my 10 ton reviver winch in also... many options...

Here's how I did mine on my B2650. I did weld directly to the existing grille guard and then sanded and repainted.

You could do the same thing with a sub-frame out of flat stock and drill and bolt, but I'm not sure I see the advantage.

I cut and bent a perimeter out of 1/4" round stock and when that fit satisfactorily, welded it together, tacked the expanded metal to it and then welded the round stock to the stock guard.

Anything is better than nothing. Thin material the light weight limbs want cause any damage it is when you get to pushing a tree top that has a old dead broke off limbs. All that has to happen is it get just right and you wipe out the radiator. Use something fairly heavy and just cut it to fit and weld it in. Then you will either bend the grill guard or break the limb.
