click click

The electric fence was working but not very strong. I walked the perimeter looking for a short. Everything looked good but as I passed the lightning arrest-or I heard a faint click click. Replaced it today and everything is back to normal. I put an ohm meter on it and it read 1 meg-ohms.I just thought I would share before someone else bought a new fencer.

There funny things especially when they short out I hunted for a long time on mine once and I knew roughly where it was I finally found it when the sun hit right a little filament from poly wire got between the wire and an old barb wire.
I have an electric fencer and I have it hooked up to an outlet on a light switch it sure is easier to flip the switch then pull the plug and the fencer is close to 30 years on the same plug

I also included in mine knife switch on different sections going out that way it helps find the offending part. Also put the ground in by the drain spout never had to worry about the ground drying out the steel roof condensation does the job.

These things have saved me a lot of time finding grounds in my fences. Note...only use with low impedance fencers.

Just used it tonight, found an old piece of wire from the neighbors side grounding out the fence.

The link is from Kencove Fencing, not saying you should deal with them, but I have and have never had an issue.

I see they've also got a house brand tester, never used one, can't vouch for it, but it is $25 cheaper.

Hopefully the guy on the cell phone don't have a warped since of humor. I got serous trust issues around electric fences

I've still got an old International 100 brand fencer, kicks like a mule. Heard they were outlawed or something, worked too well.

I'm installing a new gate out to a pasture, and working the lower hinge on a hot Summer day. Since I'm so close to the lower hot wire, I'll be smart and safe and cover it with my 10K volt linesman gloves to protect myself. Shoulda had my 10K volt rubber hat on that day, because my sweaty ball cap just nicked the upper hot line at the right time, and BANG, right to the noggin. I don't think there was any permanent drain bamage.
