The Inheritance (pic)

My cousin's wife inherited her Dad's 8N so we went to get it yesterday. "Was running when parked" 2 years ago. We got it to fire on the starter and pulling it but it appears the fuel line is clogged. Really pretty straight except for some bad Bondo on the hood. She got a Bush hog bush hog, blade, 2 way disc, and a Ferguson 2 bottom 14 AO plow. Too much gunk to read the SN right now. I will be helping fix it up. Always fun to spend other people's money.

Beware of free tractors.
It was 15 years ago on Easter Sunday that I went to pick up the 2N I inherited from my father. I've spent a lot of time and money and driven a lot of miles messing with tractors since then. And that's not counting the hours I've wasted talking about tractors here at YT.
Sure has been fun though.

Be very careful looking for that S#. It might not be stamped in the metal and only a painted mark. I know Fords are that way.

Reminds me of photo I have of me riding on PaPa's 9n when I was like 2. It looked rougher back then than this one does now.

It's long gone. He sold it and bought an 8n and in the 90's sold that one and bought a newer small diesel Ford.

I can't even guess how many hours I spent on dad's jubilee ford as a kid. All summer for mamy years with raking hay, pulling the rope on the hay hook, back blade, and pulling wagons.

From what I see it looks to be a late 1950 to 1952 since it should have a side mount distributor. I would first start by checking and making sure you have a good blue white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more at all 4 plug wires and the center wire of the cap. Weal spark will do what it is doing and one that sat that long has a good chance the points have corrode
Next I would pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes.
Also one that sat that long could well have stuck rings so an ATF treatment is likely to help

That is, in my opinion, the best N ford made. Of course they had a lot of experience by then so obviously it would be. You can actually get to the distributor! Have fun with it!

Good for her. My son's wife inherited her uncle's 9N with a Dearborn blade and loader a few years ago. She was in tears over it. He gave it to her while he was still alive because he likes her and he knew my son knows tractors and will take care of it. Her uncle's own children would have sold it the hour they got home from the funeral. The tractor might be a liability of sorts but it also is a symbol of his approval of she and my son.

"
Those pie wheel wts. are hard to come by....."

So I've heard. Front wheels are weighted, also. I don't believe there's any chloride in the rears. It's a complete set, and I think I'll keep 'em with the tractor. ;)

Yep Larry I agree that is a nice little tractor, but I just love the shed it is sitting under. Have you ever done a "feature" on tractor sheds?
