I have a set of steel wheels that I would like to get repaired. Cast center, cut spokes, welded on rim for rubber tire. I would like to go back to a steel band. I know the dimensions of and can roll the steel band. I just need someone who can do the spoke work. Who is doing this type of work out there? Thanks in advance.
 
I'm sure the spokes were cut down for the rims and rubber tires. He needs new spokes to get back to the outside circumfrence of the rubber tires.

How are the spokes attached to the hub?

If new spokes could be made and attached to the hub, it shouldn't be too difficult to determine the dimensions and replace them.

If the spokes are cast into the hub, going to be difficult, but they would probably have to have ends welded to the existing spokes, ground down, bondo-ed and blended as best as possible.

A real advantage would be to fund a factory wheel and take some measurements.

But I don't see this as a specialty job... A little run out would not be noticeable.
 
You may want to rethink this and go with NEW rubber rims rewelded to your existing centers. I had a couple of steel wheeled tractors and they are not that great. You have to bolt rubber on them to make them safe to load and unload. Then they won't pull anything at a plow day without the metal cleats plus they ride rough.
 
Thanks for the input. This is actually an implement. When I am done with the repairs to it, it will be going to an established show grounds and be a working display at the annual show. I would like to put it back as original as possible.
 
Detwiler repairs all kinds if steel wheels round spoke etc can do about anything you want . I have seen some of their work at Portland IN show and it is quality workmanship. I don't have contact info but you should be able to find them on facebook or google.
 
For an implement staying on the "farm" steel would be nice. No flat tires to deal with.
Going to be real costly I bet to get done. Maybe post what they are on. You never know some of these guys may have a set in their junk pile ?
